Default Like Unto the Sun

So I'm raiding a convoy on the Western approaches; three Black Swans as escorts, but it's only April '41. I'm not too worried. To make my life easier, I torpedo one of the frigates, and his engines go dead. For a while, he sits there waving his searchlights, but I'm seven kilometers off and it's pre-dawn, so that doesn't avail him much.

A little while later, I poke my scope up, and I see his bow cannons firing. A lot. At first, I was concerned that he might be shooting at me, but then I noticed that the ocean was bright white. I follow the path of his guns, and what do I see?

He's been launching like sixty star shells at the exact same spot.

I finished him off that afternoon.

"Don't go into the light!" I suspect the crew of that ship was setting the old Poltergeist trap. They're hereeee!
