Schatten said it: it looks like they're on an insertion mission. If they really have special missions, complete with graphics to match, it's getting better and better.

why were there marines on the deck of the sub at the end?
That'd be the commando insertion special mission.

i really hope they're puttin as much time into the AI as they are with graphics and crew animations otherwise we'l end up with an eye candy game like SH3 was outa the box!
Really. Path-finding and friendly fire were both fairly pathetic in Silent Hunter III. Let's hope they'll get that fixed - which I'm sure they will.

I love the graphics, especially the different facial expressions in the concept sketches. Very, very good! Those troops look awesome!

But yes, graphics are secondary and do not matter a bit if game-play isn't good. So let's hope it is!

What impresses me most is the work they put into the crew... I mean, actually it´s just an eye-candy immersion feature...

What I really love is the sub interior. In some shots they are almost photorealistic. Great!

I wonder if they've modelled damage effects such as flooding and fire, too.

This is looking very good so far. I especially like the "average Joe" look of the crew, as opposed to the football player/body builder figures we have in SHIII. I also noticed that each head model appears to have a clean shaven & a scruffy bearded look. I wonder if this will transition throughout a patrol. Did'nt U.S. Navy crews stay clean shaven on patrol? Maybe Sailor Steve can shed some light on this.

Now all we need are likenesses of Clark Gable, and Burt Lancaster.

Don't forget Cary Grant and Tony Curtis too.

Indeed. I also loved the chubby guy in the first interior screenshot released. Good work.

Looking at the gameplay and graphical enhancements, I think we can see just how good this game is going to be.

Kind of hard to stay clean shaven without any fresh water and hot water would be preffered. In 63 (20 years later) they turned on the water once a day for about an hour on the USS Salmon (almost the last diesel boat).

If your weren't awake ... tough titty said the kitty, but six weeks is the longest patrol I had to make without water. You get use to the smell after awhile ... lol

The Fresh water stills made the water for coffee and keeping the engines cool ...
and that was all.

Later on in the late sixties I graduated to nuc's and you could grow a beard, but it had to be just right (no scraggly beards alowned) and you had to shave it as soon as we came in.
