The TXI (Ge7s) ones are even better but I don't think they are available until late 43.

I've never used the homing torpedo's though I've had them available ... how do you use them? Just point your tubes in a general direction and fire them off? Or is a solution neccessary?

Initially you want to set up the attack as if a normal torpedo and let it go. She will do the rest. Excellent against the nasty warships...so fun to see there rear get blown off I recommend you shut your electric motors down so said torpedo is not homing in on your rear and blowing it off!

If you want to stay to the official orders then order silent running and dive to 60 ft immediately after launching a homing torp and don't launch more than one.
In real like launching more than one homing torp often caused them to follow each other in circles like a dog chasing it's tail. This is not modeled in SH3, but I only launch them one at a time anyway to stay historical.

So they're really effective? I like hunting the odd Destroyer, weaken the defense's, take a little pressure off my comrades I'm still in early 1940 in my current game, but hopefully I'll get an opportunity to try them out soon enough, thanks for the advice

In 1940, u have no problem, ahead slow and give it one lovely T1 kiss (with it 5xx kg warhead) will settle everything

In later war period, you really have to use them to help you evade from incoming destroyers... They are hard to evade and will settle your sub to the bottom of the sea...
