Default Lightships (replenishment)

In GWX I came across a British lightship E of the Firth of Forth and sank it with my machine gun. (was this a good thing to do?) But I have a question. Why were these ships parked out there. I kind of expect for navigation, but didn't that make them targets sitting out there at night with their lights blazing?

I also wondered if I could replenish my boat's supplies if I came across a Nazi lightship somewhere bc when it looked through the 'scope it read "replenishment". Thank you!

p.s. I love GWX!

The lightships didnt have any effect to the war, well maybe morally but not like the merchants carrying vital supplies for the troops. Not a good target to waste a torpedo to.

No you cant use them to replenish
They are classed as a type=100 which is a replen to stop them spawning in convoys
The lightships you will see are - for the most part - historic and were there on those dates
Up by the Firth was a busy convoy area so thats why that one stayed lit whilst others were removed from station

No, I would never waste a torp on something that small, I just raked the decks with machine-gun fire until blood started running from the scuppers. A few rounds must have penetrated an ammo locker or something because she started to burn and went down fast.

Man, the more I play GWX the more I learn. Thank you for answering my question.

Actually, some of the german uboats did not consider sinking those lightships. They aided them in navigation too, just like they aided those convoys.

Hm, good to know. Maybe I shouldn't have sunk it. I hope BDU isn't too cross!

every time I come across a lightship and view it through the uzo or periscope for more than few seconds the game freezes up. This has happened several times now, therefore, I do not go anywhere near them. They are the only ship that has ever done this to my game. Strange?:hmm:

No, that's never happened to me. Not yet anyway. I watched him through the scope and UZO for the longest and I never even got a stutter.

Default Type 100 Ships

On the subject of Type 100 ships, it is interesting to note that when you use one in the mission editor, the designation shows up as AO, which of course is the US designation for fleet oiler. Too bad the SHIII dev team didn't have time to finish some fleet tankers for the game. Although it probably wouldn't have enhanced gameplay to a great degree, and I suppose technically the Small Tanker is actually a fleet tanker model (the Patapsco Class). Still, I think type 100 is a good designation for misc vessels which shouldn't spawn at random.

IIRC the U-boats never sunk em because they knew the lightship drew merchants into that specific area like magnets (for safe navigational reasons)
