Default GWX: Torpedoed myself and only took 30% damage

Today I foolishly launched a torpedo without checking the type and too late realized it had a homing mechanism on board. It turned about and slammed right into my after section... Doing less than 30% damage to my boat. In fact, even though it virtually physically hit one of the propellers, it did not destroy either of them, nor the torpedo tube or rudder.

Is this a game-play mechanism, or is it unintended? It seems exceedingly odd to me that a torpedo that cripples/sinks a destroyer only lightly damages a submarine.

Try it again, if you get consistantly low dammage then this is something worth looking into if there isn't allredy an explanation.

You got very lucky.

The torpedo damage output is variable/random.

The last homing torpedo that I was hit by... (thanks Dowly :p ) killed half of my crew and sunk my U-boat.

Although the Tang was whacked by her own torpedo...she did not completely break up. Her stern was destroyed but the bow stayed up for quite some time. Anyway, the point is, yes, torpedos can ruin you day but not always destroy you.

Very nice memorial website to U869.

Subskin modders might want to look at the sub model photos. Link is at the bottom right - click on Model. For a Type IX/C there are some significant changes to the one in SHIII. The forward hull is one of them I've never seen before.

Thanks for the links BBW.
