Default The other pattern running torpedoes

There is one that is supposed to go in a circle, and one that lets you control the second leg.

With the first one, it doesn't seem terribly useful. Unless it is going in straight lines (go straight, turn around, etc) I don't see how this has a better chance of taking out escorts. Frankly I'd rather have the torps that zigzagged than these.

The second one sounds neat, but they're pricey, like 350+ renown each. You could set the second leg either to make another pass at the ship or if there's two ships, set the leg to go after the second ship if it misses the first. The thing it WONT let you do apparently is change the depth of the second leg, which also would have been useful.

I know the allies invented the "foxer" , a noise making device that they towed behind ships to make Acoustic torps miss, and which neutralised the threat effectively.

Did they model this ingame?

Nothing like that modelled into the game. It would be cool. They need to model in the PT boats that really launch the torpedos and also the 'FIDO' that the Allies used with the aircraft hunting the U-boats.

For the most part but the do not hand them out like candy. In other words you are lucky if two are offered for a patrol. Shoot I would load all tubes with them if I can and just shoot and forget it. Anyway, these come at a cost in the renown purse.

Hey AV...from what I hear about the size of your purse, :hmm: that shouldn't present any problems lol

This is balanced by a limited stock of them at base (usually like 1-2) and a high renown cost for something consumable (compare the cost to upgrades like sonar decoys or radar detectors, that benefit your sub EVERY patrol). The type V costs something like 800 renown EACH.

Also they're not as foolproof as you think. True, they were more accurate then they were historically, but they don't work 100%. Their range is kind of limited and they travel slower than other torpedoes. Going at 24 kts, they are definitely not going to catch up to a DD running flank at 30 knots. You also have to watch your own heiny since they can lock on to you too (plus I would NOT be surprised if your own sonar decoys fool them )

Well, a DD running at 30+ knots is clearly no threat to me, so I'll just let him go anyway. If he's coming at me, I'll fire the acoustic torp at him and when he slows down to listen for me the torp will have his ass.

Limited stock... buy your torps, take a walk outside (get out of the equip sub screen), come back inside, and viola! more torps are available inside.

Not me man. I struggle just to get enough renown for a new boat. Most is spent on new equipment for the boat I have. Like a CD player, soda machine, plasma TV for the fellas' on break, etc.
