Spaceships in Star Trek were on the same screen in external shots even when Spock/Data/etc. said the ships were at (many hundreds of KM) away. It just looks cool ummmkay?

IMO futuristic spaceship designs in TV and movies set hundreds or thousands of years in the future shouldn't have to follow real life turn-of-the-21st-century design norms. While I agree that some of the movie/TV spaceships could have used someone with a better eye for styling, as we've seen from various depictions of expected future land, space and air vehicles from the 40's and 50's even relatively short projections are nearly always wildly incorrect.

If you notice the ship's designs: The Star Destroyers are a mere "evolution" of the Republican ships seen in the first movies, they're like the Battleships of WW2 which were an evolution from the models of WW1 but not a new class of vessels in themselves such as the Carriers. Already outdated for the present warfare but still being produced, these ships are no match for small fighters with torpedoes. The Super Star Destroyer is a propaganda machine more than a super-weapon: it's the flag-ship of the fleet, most of the time it will carry the fleet's Admiral, it is exactly like the KMS Bismarck of WW2. Remember that the Empire must keep an entire galaxy under control, you can kill the people, but what good is a razed planet? Somebody must survive to serve you, and those that are kept alive will be impressed and pacified by propaganda and fear of quick and harsh reprisals for their uprising, exactly like the real world from the times of Rome to Nazi Germany to present time. About the incompetence of the Imperial Star Destroyer, Captains crashing on each other, just take a look at the Russian officers of the Sino-Russo war. Captains breaking the line, turning too soon, turning too late, never turning, falling into ambushes, traps, low training, the list goes on. Incompetence is no stranger to real navies. If you noticed Darth Vader has a knack for choking officers that fail their mission and promoting the next ranking officer instantly on the spot. After a while this rule by terror will elevate not the capable and skilled officers, but the ones who are willing to lie, hide facts and do whatever is necessary to keep their position or accomplish their mission, to remain alive, including eliminating opposition, eliminating promising recruits or using them as baits or on suicide missions, the cunning, the treacherous, the liar, will rise. Again this is no stranger to the real world, take a look at Stalin's purge and its consequences on the quality of the Red Army. Still a thumb down? Star Wars may be a boring movie for your well-educated and cultured standards but I find these examples more than didactive, unless you're willing to tell me how else can a kid grasp or even have the interest for these subjects from an early age so that when they reach their teens they can avoid being fooled by the Sith and the power-hungry.

you know what bugs me the most about action movies.
the good guys! 1.They evade bullets like no-one, while evading bullets with crazy jumps and diving they seem to be able too shoot the enemy with a single bullet in the head. 2.the Car they shoot always goes up with a big bang. in some cases I find that ridiculious...why do they always blow up when the damage done on it is very comon in traffic accidents. 3. and this pisses me off...it seem that this Hero figure kicks everyones ass of the bad guys side...but when it comes to the final fight...the Hero gets his ass kicked by the Big Bad Dude so badly that it becomes a dramatic scene of defeat...and then the Dramatic comeback! he suddently opens his eyes...his face covered with blood...1 eye closed, his body must have at least a lot of broken bones...and he still manage to kill the Big bad dude on an impossible way. Ow yeah dont forget the Hero's girfriend ''the crying slut'' because when the hero comes out of the big bad guys hide-out (that will be on fire and things explode in his back'' she will be there...crying and then in a slo-mo love run to eachother you see her cry like never before. God...action movies - lack of realism!

Yeah and lets not forget the heroine who never stays where she was told and manages to get captured forcing the hero to not only complete the mission but rescue her at the same time.

![]() and sometimes she even dies...my Puke moment when I see the face expresion of the Hero ''BOOOHOOOHOOOO WHY!!! WHY!!!!!'' camera flies into the air focused on the Hero there crying out loud. and then comes the best part...the Hero's unatural Rage like he is powering up as a Saiyin (Dragonball Z) and because this happens at the end...the hero enters the lair of the enemy building kicks ass about 100 vilians . really..bah! The reason I like movies of historical events like ''Alexander the Great'' good movie btw...realistic enough for me to enjoy it.

I always wonder about the benefits of laser guns in those sci fi movies.
As you see, lasers seems to have 1) low muzzle velocity, and thus the good and bad guys could dodge the beams, 2) low rounds per minute rate, and 3) laser beams seems to be "all tracer". IMHO, I think I could kick some a$$ in the Star Wars universe with an ol´fashioned m249 machine gun. :hmm:
