Well, yesterday was my finest hour. 65,000 tons of steel on the ocean floor.

WOW! My best was 121961 tons Nailed a couple of C2's a DD and 3 BATTLESHIPS!! I sank a Revenge and two Nelsons. Since you have a year to go, take my advice. Patrol Gibralter around April 1st to the 9th. I encounter the task force down near Africa, South West of the entrance of the straits. All this while running stock SG3 plus Commander. Got back to St. Nazarine and Bingo Promotion with over 3000 renoun as my reward. Ended up over 7000 renoun. Since then no promotions. I used a tpye VIIB with that run. Traded my U-51 for a VIIC. Got 10000 renoun and now I am in command of that big IXCD2 what ever the hell number it is. All I now is I plan to spend some warm Christmas in the Caribena thanks to that 23,400 KM range

You talk about April 1941? Okay, I will keep that in mind. Currently I'm in November 1940.

I dont really care what rank I am but I do some hiring/firing of crew just to make it intersting.

I use SHIII Commander and GW on my version.

Here is the list of the experience points each crewman are allowed as maximum points. They can get more points by playing them but these are the cutoff numbers before a seaman promotes to a Warrant Officer and such. However this doesnt happen as SHII Commander and SHII doesnt allow you to promote a crew man to another class level.

Officers - 500
Warrant Officers - 300
Regular seaman - 100

So here is what I do before I launch SHIII.

I open up Commander and go to the crew management dialog box under the 'Actions' link. I go through all my crew members and see who needs to be promoted. I use the 'experience' numbers to tell me who to promote. If seaman 'so and so' has 43/20 experience, I promote him one grade. I then crank up SHIII and go straight to the crews listing. I look for any crew memeber who has more points than what is listed above and dismiss him. I then enlist a new crew member with 0 renown. This goes for ALL crew members. This way, I have a rotating crew with differnt experience levels like I believe what would happen in RL.

This is just another way I micromanage my sub using SHIII, GW, and SHIII Commander.

Thanks for the info.

I've always wondered why crew members have sort of 43/20 points, now I know who deserves promotion and who doesn't.

BTW, what does your sig mean? Do you want to say: "we've been sunk by a lorry" or "we have sunk a lorry"?

If you use SHIII Commander, you can promote crew up several grades as long as you stay within the requirements. So a seaman cannot be promote higher than 100 experience points level and the WO cannot go pass the 300 points level. SHIII Commander will give you an error message if you try.

Take the 'seaman' class. The break down for promotions are as follows:

20 points
50 points
100 points

So if we take your crewmen at 43/20 as an example. We promote him one grade and he ends up at 43/50. He is good until he tops over 50 experience points then you promote him once again to X/100. Also when crew members are given medals, that also goes towards experience points.

The sig line is from the movie (I cant remember the name of it off hand) with Cary Grant where he is a captain of a US submarine which ends up being painted pink. He tries to attack a ship but misses and the torpedo ends up on the beach and blows up a truck. Cary Grant is at the periscope and then says "We sunk a truck!".

We had a discussion on this forum about my sig line and what the correct German translation is. I think this was the best we could come up with.
