Default Installing SH3 without the misery

Deleted SH3 for like the 50th time in 2yrs, last install had parts of GW as GW's harbour traffic use to annoy me as my pc is not really up to it, [2.4gig, 1gig ram, 6600 geforce 256ram, winxp pro - 91.47 nvidia drivers] alot of times she would just crash no fault to GW more the blame would ly in my hardware. it just couldn't handle the harbour traffic wheneva the red light would be flashing i knew a crash was in the running lol.
But a month without GW and just playing the standard game with parts of GW added & other mods wasn't good enough i just had to go back even tho my PC can handle the standard game. So deleted SH3 and prepared myself for a nite of hairpulling fist slamming nightmare. As SH3 never installs properly sometimes the instalation stuffs up or it will install fine but then the patching would stuff up!.

But the simple fix i found was this. I install a very old dvd drive 4x speed. The installation of SH3 went fine then i patched 1.4b US vers and that too ran its course without any errors. I then install GW's minus the friendly mines, and chose the 8km option which i always do. Started up a new career in St Naz VIIB, and the game ran far better than ive ever had it running with GW! I also sunk my first ship a C3 cargo with two torps? which is strange as usually it takes 3 or 4, she just blew up and sunk!

So i dont know but it worked for me, install an old or slower speed dvd if ya have one and you might be lucky and not get annoying errors.

And tis good to be back in GW, this is the true expansion for SH3.

Hi, I have the same specs as you except the Graphics Card [mine's a 6800] and whilst playing a WAC version, the harbour came under attack and I couldn't kick start the flak-gunner into action as my mouse pointer juddered all over the screen I'm hoping Santa brings me a 7950.
P.S. Beer's still in the fridge.. next bus from New Zealand to Scotland is the number 15 and leaves at ..er.. what time zone are you in ? :rotfl:

I run a AMD 3200+, 1 gig RAM, Nvidia 6200OC 256 MB card and did not have any of these issues. Sometimes I think it is just how the old computer is feeling. Anyway, I originally just threw in GW and it played fine. I decided to do a complete reinstall to see if the game could run better. It runs the same, no issues. I did not put in friendly mines like you. Did not make sense to me to have the friendly mines, I got enough to worry about! Maybe it was the mines giving you some headaches.

Another thought, did you turn off the seafloor mod? I found that with this on my P4 2.3ghz 1.5Gb RAM, GE4800 with 128Mb couldn't handle GW, but once the seafloor turned off I saw a marked improvement. It's still not too fast in harbours with lots of traffic but even though I'm only getting 12FPS I can still play without any probs.

Yep i dont choose to install the seafloor nor the 16km option.

Im really talking about the installation issues i always would get and others i have read on here. Im sure my NU dvd dual drive is rubbish as it does this with a couple of other games. Once i tried out the installation useing a old 4x drive i had no problems installing SH3.

SH3 and Gw are running better than before
