Default Help me id some flags.

I looked at the community manual but it doesnt seem to have all of the countries flags that are in the GW mod. Furthermore, I dont know when\if some of those countries were ever targets. Im looking at some south african ships but I have no idea if i should sink them.

If you have the GW mod, there is a pull-down chart in the upper left on the periscope/UZO views that display all the flags, plus their status and dates of status.

Hope that helps!

Wow. It helps some but im having a bit of trouble understanding it. Neutral = N is obvious, Alliierte = A I take to mean allie and Achsenmaechte = X is a mystery to me.

Achsenmaechte = Axis Powers. In other words, allies of Germany.

It confuses me at times, as I unconsciously want to equate "Allies" with allies.

I don't remember

One of the things that sucks (for me, anyway) about trying to answer questions at times is that I have to have SHIII up and running to doublecheck things, and it bites having to keep toggling back and forth from Windows to SHIII, as it takes several minutes to change from one to the other. --sighs--

And yeah as I mentioned I have the occassional senior moments and forget that the Allies are not my allies, too. Didn't Germany have their own names for that? It doesn't make sense, to me, for them to have called the Allied Powers that. Or does it?

Its ok. The flags that im looking at are british so I would assume they are targets if every city in england is red. Besides I think I already downed a neutral. First ship sunk on my first patrol...oops. Not exactly sure whats going to happen when I get back to base.

Depending on what version of the game you're running will determine what happens.

For one, attacking a neutral will have you 'flagged' as attackable by that country for a period of time afterwards. For example, you attack a US vessel in 1940, and after that, for a while, US ships will fire on you if they detect you.

For another, in the stock game and in GW, neutral tonnage sunk is deducted from your renown for that patrol (and you don't even wanna know what happens of you sink a friendly ship!). I'm not sure how NYGM handles it, as they don't use renown but work off of straight tonnage sunk.

Supposedly, if you sink too many neutrals, the Kriegsmarine will dismiss you from command and the service.

Well in reality sinking a neutral wasn't so bad depending on the circumstances and the year. Within a convoy neutrals were fair gaem since they were obviously hiding amongst your enemies. If I don't wanna get shot I don't walk in the middle of a Regiment of soldiers at war.

But alone it was a bit different. Though neutrals alone at night and blacked out were a bit rare.

at the bottom left theres a lil book thingy you can open up.. before you do that, theres some arrows that point up and down, you use that to see what country is what, and also then look on the map to see if there neutral or not

*for example, if you see a norwegian flag... then look on your map.. and see that norwegian ports are all red... its safe to sink the ship *

Not sure why no matter what I do they all show up as neutral at the end of the mission. I think that I am getting credit for them, but they are listed as neutral ships sunk.

Not sure how they appear being listed for you. I know at the end of my missions, when the screen pops up displaying tonnage, types and affiliations (ex. neutral, friendly), it's deceptive. Be careful looking left to right because it appears cocked. As I don't have an example of that in front of me I'm going to 'wing' an example: on the left, four lines down, it says 'neutral sunk'. On the right the numbers for that is only three lines down. That's because the first (uppermost) left line has no corresponding info on the right side. Your eyes want to match up line to line, and it sort of tilts the lines to do that, making it very misleading to interpret.
