Everyone's quick to blame SH3 Commander. My adivce to you would be to roll back SH3C and reload from base (i.e the patrol before you had the ctd).
I have had CTD's as you describe twice. First was at time compression and I collided with something. Second was when I didn't roll back SH3C. Give this ago. Hope it works for you.
