That is not the point of my post though. The point is - they can't touch then - 101? That's an incredibly low number in a hostile environment and it is due to technology. It's actually an unbelievable number that can not even be compared to in any other time in history!

This is a lot in due to our hard working engineers we have that constantly keep coming up with things to keep our troops safe, and that is why I wrote my post. To put it into perspective, over 50,000 men were killed in Vietnam in less time.

OK, I get your meaning now. July 1 thru July 3 1863 52,000 casualties, all Americans. Gettysburgh. Your point on technology also applies to what we call collateral damage. Much reduced. Most deaths we see in Iraq are Iraqi upon Iraqi.

Anyone claiming the US presence instigates the violence should look at the tribal nature of Iraq and the northern Kurdish sectors of the country.

Any of you guys ever strap on a pack and rilfe and be loaded into the belly of a cargo plane? Or see people you know get mained or killed in front of you in some 3rd world hell hole far far from home? If not, try it sometime, your meaningless statistcs take on a whole new meaning.

The numbers aren't meaningless to me.

Sad that you feel that way. The whole point of the thread was to thank the engineers for helping keep our troops safe who are in harms way and you want to attack us for showing appreciation. Nice. A pretty pathetic post.

How many people live because of their sacrifice? I don't and will not diminish the sacrifice of those killed nor of their families and nor of their friends, but think of how many lives they have saved.

Ive stepped into similar topics in other forums besdies subsim. IMPLIED is the same thing as EXPRESSED in my book. Far too many people post in doublespeak when it comes to this subject, and ive all but run out of patience for it.

anyway,

yeah, its amazing....seeing how in WW2 it took an entire wing of bombers to take out a target. That caused uncountable civilian tolls.

Now look: we can fire a TLAM through some guys window, taking out just his little shack or what ever he lives in. most civ counts don't get above ten, and thats in a highlly residential area.

pretty neat, if you ask me.

I think Ducimus only counts the dead. Try counting the living friend. If you are concerned about human life then the lives saved are just as important as those lost.

Statistics.. That was the point of this post.

This isnt a praise about anyone, its another freaking Pro war, "gee, its not so bad, damn liberal press is blowing this out of proportion, lets put it into perspective" post. That's what this really is. Its the same type of horsehit pro war people spout so it doesnt sound so damn bad and trumpet just how great bush and the goverment is.

Anytime i hear about a G.I getting killed it pisses me off. To talk about those G.I's as a meaningless stastics really ticks me off. They had names, they had famlies. One statistic they dont tell you about is how many come home maimed or with emotional scars. Then when their discharged, their tossed aside like an old pair of boots. Never hear about or look into that do you?!?!

So this month 101 G.I's died..... for what? Freedom? Thats what we tell ourselves so we'll feel warm and fuzzy about it. Nobody wants to say, to admit that their friends may have died for nothing, for some lost cause that wasnt, or shouldnt have been ours.

And yeah, i saw my share of bull****. I've been to Korea to Bosnia, and alot of places in between and the hardest thing to accept was that where my country was concerned, it was all for nothing. In the end, nothing done mattered to anyone except to those who where there.

If i sound bitter, its because i am.

Same here. Which is why I don't get involved in these scuffles because I can't explain it to most here.

No point in explaining to people who weren't there, and no need to tell it those who were there.
