Help!
Hello fellow subsimmers,
after having such a low response to my last post in the "SHIII Forum", I'm hoping to find some substantial help here. The problem: I recently installed the US-DVD version of SH3. Directly following this, I installed the (correct) Ubisoft so-called 1.3 Patch (which seems to be also the 1.45 Patch - as prerequsite for the Real Boot expansion). Now, after having installed the Ubisoft patch, saving games (for example in the middle of a tour in career mode) doesn't work... when reloading, I get gibberish on the main screen and messages like this: "kjdnbrejjf8i49ru" or "No crew" or "game cannot be loaded"... et. cetera. I'm hoping that one of you can give me step-by step instructions regarding installing SH3 (clean install), and the following steps regarding the installation of the Ubisoft patch and finally, the following steps regarding installing real boot 1.46. Please give me step-by step instructions. Thanks... gute Jagd und fette Beute comecar Neunkirchen, Germany |

If you were not in port when the patch or mod is applied, it will mess up your game.

For the correct US dvd 1.4b patch dated 22-June-2005, get the one from the bottom of this page.... http://patches.ubi.com/silent_hunter_3/

The patch download file should be labled 1.4b, in game after being applied it will say 1.4, but while installing it says 1.3.

Yeah, Kylania is right, the file is incorrectly numbered while installing, but is, in fact, the version 1.4b. I have all of the patches on my harddisk and I got them from the site that GT182 mentions.

I had the habit of saving in-game, until one day I couldn’t load again because of a corrupt save file. I died (damn those B-24s), I couldn’t go back to a previous point in the career, and I couldn’t save any career that I started afterwards. I did a new install (without that Starforce crap –I shelled out 45 Euros for SH3 and I got punished with Starforce, go figure), and was more careful about which mods I installed. I think it was some skins that I installed, and while removing them I may have deleted something else. In any case, a clean install solved everything. Have fun with this great game!

Like Ducimus said do not add the mods unless you are in port.

Actually, don't change anything in SHIII while at sea. Only make changes while "In Base". Not even config files just to be safe.
![]() Another idea is to make a backup of your SHIII folder in My Documents, the complete SHIII folder on your C Drive, and SHIII Commander folder. It'll save you headaches if you make the "big" mistake like I have. Best place to save the backups to is an external HDD. Actually backing up the complete C Drive every so often is the best thing to do. Live and learn. ![]()

I´m not saying this to be rude or anything like that, just to help you. Next time, if you have problems, try using a more describing topic name. In other game forums, I see alot of topics named "HELP!!!!!!", "HELP!!!!11111", "Something´s wrong! HELP!!!!!" etc. When I browse the forums and see topics like that, I just ignore them.
Of course, that´s not the case in SubSim as there´s isnt 10000 topics named "HELP!!", but if there would be, your question would most propably have been left unanswered. Nothing more, enjoy your stay and take care! ![]() |
