Id be willining to bet that you either smacked the bottom or dived uncontrollably.
At 64x its real easy to do either before you realize what happend. There are some pretty shallow areas around there. |

I was just leaving the Gibraltar area to the SE, near the south tip of the Gibraltar peninsula.
I could've hit bottom, I thought it was deeper than 25m where I was, but who knows. (Unfortunately, SHIII does not have an "instant replay" option. It would be really cool if it did (like Flight Simulator has), so you could go back and watch the last couple of minutes, or so, from various vantage points.) :hmm: Also, the boat had something less than 58% hull integrity (I didn't check the number after the boat endured one more hit after being at 58%). Anyways, c'est la guerre. My whole career lasted from December 1 to December 11, 1941. ![]()

Here's a picture of the rock of Gibraltar from the west, inside the Gibraltar bay.
At this point we'd used up the last of our torpedoes and were on the way out... ![]()

On the other hand, I sometimes wonder if when I die it'll be so sudden that my last thought will be "WTF just happend".
Maybe the death screen is most realistic from that point of view. On the other other hand, I agree. I miss AOD's newspaper accounts of "Local Hero Lost At Sea".
