I'm still reading Angrep i skjærgården ("attack in the skjærgård*"), still for my NOROP project, and the section I'm reading is still about MTBs 711 and 723's surface fight with U-637 (pages 244-246). One more thing that caught my attention and that I thought was worthy of bringing up here was this interesting manoeuvre undertaken by one of the MTBs near the end of the battle.
As far as I understand it, the MTB passed very close to the bow of the crippled u-boat and dropped four depth charges which went off below the surfaced u-boat as she ran over them. This apparently crippled the u-boat, as she "drifted towards land, obviously completely out of control". The poor ole boat ended up grounded, listing heavily and with only her bow and parts of her tower over the surface. Just a little something for Silent Hunter 4. *As far as I know, there is no English word for "skjærgård", which refers to the "forest" of small islands and skerries along the Norwegian coast.

Sounds like s complex AI manoeuvre to make... But i agree, it would have been cool to do that. Also the possibility of visible crippled hull on the sub. When you for instance run aground, you should have some bend metal & deformation on the boat. A black spot doesnt really do it for me.. When is this addon ready, mate? Looking really forward to this. Will there be fishing vessels (fiskeskøyter) with machineguns in barrels?
(Regner med at Shetlands-Larsen er "med"...) ![]() BTW: From the norwegian dictionary www.ordnett.no: skjærgård: subst. flt. skerries, archipelago

Sounds cool - personally I want MTBs To launch torpeedos in SH4 or I dont want them in the game at all. I hate those Constipated Elcos in SH3, dont know whats wrong with them - I guess they have too much cheese in their diets. Its almost a waste of flak gun to even sink them.
Some people say it deosnt matter, because - "you can 'pretend' that they have torpeedos and they are actually scary and they will will beat you up... so you then dive from them" .... -well I hate those people ![]() When you play a sim you technically are already 'pretending', so if your going to pretend within a pretence - you may just as well play out your submarine warfare in your head without a computer. ![]() Last edited by JU_88; 10-16-06 at 03:29 PM. |

![]() Oh, and you can download Serg's "virtual torpedo" add-on, which gives them torpedoes... Of sorts. It also adds the Vosper and RAF Launch. Quote:

The Japanese built about 248 regular MTBs during the war. Of these 199 were surrendered or scrapped after the war. The rest (49) were lost.
One interesting variant was the "Shinyo" suicide craft. Basically, a one man motor boat with a massive charge of T.N.T. placed in the bow and armed by the pilot when a collision course with an enemy vessel had been set. The Japanese built massive numbers of these (6,000) for the last-ditch defense of Okinawa and the Home Islands, but as far as we know, no Allied vesssel was ever seriously damaged by one of these craft. However, had the proposed Allied invasion of Japan gone ahead as planned we might have seen quite a few of them in action.

This was done by ramming DD's too. The DD or corvet would drop a patern of DC's on shalow setting as the stern passed over the hull of the sub.
