That would be a nice addition, as the moral, even your own can be affected if the guy is lost on a patrol.

I agree with that. You could stand on the bridge and yell "Das is Thomson....." or whoever your dismissed officer is as he sails by in his new boot.

You could have your own little privately trained wolfpack......

Commander asked me to hand my boat over to my IWO, and retire. No way, I ignored it and went on, only to get sent to Iceland and back (all our last 7 patrols were off the west coast of Africa), that'll learn me. At least they are all well decorated and qualified, that'll be tested by the TF I've just run into, resplendant with Fleet Carrier.

You're asked to let your best people go - but there is always the other side of the coin.

All armies & navies throughout time have had people who were F*&k-ups.

Mostly, you couldn't just fire them, but you could try to post them on to another unit so some other poor sod has to put up with them.

A very funny guy called Spike Milligan wrote a full account of his war-time experiences in the British Army.

He said some of these poor souls spent the entire war being posted from one unit to another - one guy gave his address as the back of a lorry (truck).

If you managed to get rid of Bernard, good luck! - but remember, in return you get some-one else's F*&k-up.

There is not real advantage to letting them go other than the "historical immersion" argument so keep em till you or they die!

I play 94% realism so am in it for realism and immersion, if one of my fine officers can take a command or is needed on another boat then I let them go for that advancement opportunity, the Fuerer has given Doenetz authority to start mass producing U-Boats after Prien's sinking of that battleship in Scapa Flow, so they will need experienced officers.
