I've done that before a couple of times, some times it's the only way to get them off your back, and if they are the only convoy escort, you are now free to sit around on the surface lobbing torps and shells to your hearts content. If you attack from behind them, they can only shoot you with AA guns, and only then if you are less than 2000-1500 metres, not sure of the exact distance, but it doesn't really matter, AA does almost no damage to you anyways. Good Hunting!
The most frustrating part of this episode is he was the only convoy escort and by the time 'he'd' ran my batteries down to 10%, I surfaced and engaged him etc. I couldn't find the rotten convoy ! I was that frustrated, tufts of my hair started falling onto the keyboard .
