I think Russia fears its options diminish, that is why it does not like NATO encroaching on its neighbours. With NATO there is no more coercion like what we see being done to Georgia. In this situation Georgia is in a kind of Neville vs Hitler situation. No matter what Georgia does or doesn't do it will be irrelevant as Russia prepares to take the steps it believes are necessary.

Can anyone please tell me what government Russia is now operated by since Putin now has absolute control of both the military and the public media?

Indeed....Russia needs a strong leader like Putin to pull itself back together...what it doesn't need is a return to the old Soviet days where more money was spent on military expansion than public resources, and Pravda was gospel. It's a helluva mess and I don't envy Putin one bit, but he's got to play this carefully...

Rossiya television quoted police who said Ms Politkovskaya had been shot three times in the body and once in the head.

A pistol and four bullet cartridges were found near her body.

It's obvious it's a hit.

And a sloppy job of it at that.
