Default Some Advice, please!

Believe it or not, I'm yet to play SHIII as I've not had a rig capable of it!

That is about to be rectified (in a major way!), so....

There is an amazing collection of mods listed here. Could I get some advice on what your favourite combinations are (and why, if you've the time)? Would really value hearing comments and some suggestions.

FYI, my priorities are:

1. realistic ship/sub behaviour in terms of sailing model.
2. realistic damage (i.e. not crippled by a single DC 30m from me, and not needing four torps to sink an 8,000t merchant).
3. good graphics (my machine will be able to run anything....).
4. decent crew management (don't want to have to change things every 10 minutes!).
5. realistic escort performance - not uber, and not terminally stupid!
6. will probably use manual TDC but would like map to update positions real time (which I can then 'fix' on map and use positions to generate solutions manually).

I'm NOT concerned about things such as:

* harbours - I'm not interested in entering them.
* changing officer pics etc (unless they are a SIGNIFICANT improvement).

Realise I'm asking a lot, but would really appreciate people's views on the combinations they find most enjoyable and 'realistic'. If comments could be made in light of my 'wish list' above that would be ideal.

Thanks all!!

There's really three options as far as I see it.

Grey Wolves 1.1a (GWX upcoming) - Graphically superior to other mods and vanilla. Completely changes the feel of the game. More realistic through the use of the NYGM damage model, changed weapon performance and includes a 24 hour fatigue model to help reduce the amount of shift changes. Far more encounters, convoys, harbor traffic and the like. Lots of historical radio messages. I love GW.

NYGM Tonnage War 2.01 (2.2 upcoming) - Strives to be extremely realistic, an extreme amount of work has been done to acurately reflect the damage, performance, detection and avoidance systems of subs and escorts and planes. Very much a more difficult and challenging mod. Less map data, stronger enemies, realisticly random upgrades enemy routes, random speed and course convoys, a ton of stuff for those wanting a simulation rather than game. Uses tonnage and time rather than renown for sub upgrades. Along with GW, it's used as the mod of choice for Wolves At War reinactment campaign.

U-Boat War Ace 1.92 - This is a stand alone 'super mod' as well. Simiar to the other two mentioned this one adds in a TON of extra harbor things, but it's main claim to fame is a giant list of historical battles and engagements that are recreated and you can view/be involved in. I have it, but other than one quick patrol haven't played with it much. Graphically demanding but those who like it reallly realllly like it.

Personally I use a GW and NYGM install both, but seperate. You'll definately want a copy of SH3 Commander to help run and tweak things. SH3 Weather program is kind of neat as well. SH3Gen patrol info program is nice as well.

That's what I personally remember about the mods off the top of my head so hope it helps.

I use TGW with SH3 Commander and Drifters Realism Mod. So far I love it. Having just been killed I may try a compaign with NYGM to see how it is.

As for Drifters Mod. It increases the repair times (sometimes by hours). No more insta repair which drastically changes your tactics while being hunted. It also changes the damage model of the sub so that you will be more likely to sink from flooding as opposed to getting the insta screen of death. It actually gives you a chance to save your boat.

I would start by reading up on the big supermods and see which one is more likely to suit your desires.
