I am only on my second patrol with GW (which had me re-start playing SH3, great job GW team! ), and I am saving some renown to get a type IX soon (which I never did with stock SH3, always stuck with type VII in careers).

This led me to wonder about what you guys think as "must haves" in term of what you "buy" with your renown.

Just curious!

Engine supercharger upgrade, better batteries, newer hydrophones, newer sonar, BOLDS, and finally snorkle...just about in that order. I follow this up by improving the conning towers when available, which allows me to upgrade the AA/flak guns.
I stay away from radar and radar warning devices.
