If you are attacking a merchan ship then use flank speed all you want, but NEVER try that with a warship around, since they'll detect you immediatly if you make THAT much noise under water.

The problem is that flank speed underwater isn't enough to outmaneuver any but the slowest of all ships, so in most cases the argument is void.

As for time compression... yes, it's a valid technique, but only 2x or 4x at most, or else you risk nasty surprises and rude awakenings.

As a side note, if you're on the surface, then you don't show up on their ASDIC at all, no matter what, and your hydrophone signature is also considerably reduced, so ironicaly, before radar, it's harder for the enemy to detect you while on the surface.
