sorry Wil'

it needs a little more than just 100k tonnage in one patrol to have any genuine depth..try 100k every patrol for ten patrols with nil hull damage loss of personal or damage accrued..and you'll be where you want to be..

the game doesn't really allow for realistic tonnage results ....so realistic "heroics" regarding results are going to be very wide of the mark..

That is a good point too CB. Eventually 100k on 100% is nothing as well, once you've played long enough. Now that I got the hang of it, I'm doing 100k every patrol, so far on 72%.

Pants, I agree with you too. I don't care how people play, but if there is a competitive club then I think there should be some standard, the same one for all. Otherwise you can also just have it for fun, but then CB's point comes in, does it mean anything other than a big fat brag ?

Will, the comment I made about maturity in this forum, in my initial post is not related to the 100k club but rather to the forum.

i think folks would get far greater satisfaction from joining one of the on-line campaign groups around...it does the same thing but it is much more involving and balanced...i think the competitive angle is a red herring..me if i get 30k in a patrol i head for base...any more than that and it turns the game into space invaders in slow motion lol
me i approach the game from a survival horror point of view not a score board view which IMO is coser to the truth than it first sounds..

W@W is fun, I also love the On-line mini " W@W " We go off and play online for days at a time hunting on our own, we set up a grid for rendevous, then all 8 of us get together, form a wolf pack and hunt as a group
We have unlimted torps off, we really dont play for tonnage..just enjoy meeting up and forming wolfpacks.

It's great

If I wanted to have a competitive club of some sort, I'd go join a clan and play Unreal Tournament.

I'm here to enjoy myself in the middle of the North Atlantic while I wait for some unsuspecting supply convoy, thank you very much.

Nothing more. If I don't sink an ounce of shipping on a patrol, then so be it. The thrill is in the hunt, not how much I bagged. Just this landlubber's $.02...

Default 100K realism

I play this for the realism. Its not about how many you sink, its about how you sink them. Strategy & sneaking into a harbour for the one big "sniper" shot is my thrill. I could make my sub invincible, and hammer torpedos on every floating thing, just to get 100K, 200K, or 1000K, but thats not realistic. But: Everybody must play this game as they want, realistic or not.

There is a diffrence betwen real life and a sim (no matter how realistic it is). If I was a real life kaleun on my first patrol I dont know if I would even engage a large convoy while beeing it was beeing protected with escorts- probably I would just be stalking some lone ships the first few patrols. The fact that any mistake will cost you your life and lives of other 70 sailors that depend on your judgement makes a man think not twice but three times before he attacks.

In SHIII I sank 80t in my first patrol (hit the same convoy 4 times and dodged DCs 3 times each time for over 2h of game time- In RL if I was going to raid a convoy and after that get nastly DCed I would just turn away home... Not go in for more revenge )
