Default install

I have several installs also, but what I do is keep them on DVD's and copy them onto my hard drive when I want to change, so I only have one install at a time. I tried to do several at the same time, but I screwed it up with SH3CMDR by not rolling back when I should have. So I have just one install at a time. I also have two computers, so I keep NYGM Tonnage mod on one to play WAW

When I wanted to experiment with NYGM I moved my normal 'Data' folder to another place and renamed it 'Data My Way'. When I got done looking at NYGM I just swapped the folders. I don't know if that constitutes a 'separate install', but it works. You can have as many different games onboard as you want by just swapping out the 'Data' folders.

I get the same message when I tried to reinstall sh3. If you click ok it leaves the files there in the main folder but don’t add the shortcuts or reg entries. only way round it I found it when the install is done don’t click finish press ctrl alt del and then end the tasks, idrive.exe and setup.exe in that order I think and should be able to run the game then.

I think it’s a problem with installshield or registry problem. Only other way can think to fix it is to format but don’t want to do that.

i also tend to get error 1628: Failed To complete installation

Are you fellows telling me that you can have 5 different installs of SH3???
ie: 1 with GW, 2 with NYCM, 3 GW and modded, 4 a stock but modded, etc. How does this affect your registry??? Oh, I was told by a computer technician to never run a reg cleaner on the registry because they don't do a good job.

Default cleaning registry.

Robj250,
I mess around with my registry all the time, and I run Registry Mechanic to clean it out once a month or so. I have everything backed up, so I can undo if I have to. I have had computer gurus tell me to clean the registry out.
I have had to clean the registry to reinstall at least 3 times.

Hi Kaleuns,

because of reinstallation troubles with InstallShield have a look to this thread

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=97042

Give it a try - but do this on your own risc -> create a restore point before running the mentioned tool in post 6.

Greetings,
SSB

Regclean is safe to use. In fact, it got thumbs up from M$. I've used it at least a dozen times on my system and have never had a problem with deleting reg entries it deemed useless. It makes a backup of your original reg settings (that I've never had to use). Great little utility.

You can DL the freeware version here:

AMD 64 3000+
2 gb kingston ram
Chaintech 6600 256 mb
Maxtor (bought by Seagate) 60 gb SATA HD
WD IDE 80 gb HD
