The HSie patch is the best patch to choose. You copy your sh3.exe file to a temporary folder, then modify the file using a batch script in the mod. The script knows about all the versions of sh3.exe. You then put the modified sh3.exe in a new JSGME folder under [sh3 directory]/mods. You also have to manually edit some ...menu.txt files and put them in the same folder along with a few other modified game files that come with the mod. You can then install the mod using JSGME. You need to be careful about clashes with other mods that swap in different versions of the game files.
Once installed the HSie patch can be configured by running the included utility HsieOptionsSelector.exe. All this was done because of a fear of copyright back in the day. To be honest it makes little difference as all modding probably breaks some of the terms in the game's copyright. Everyone has now got much more relaxed. If you download the latest version of Fifi's NYGM steel coffins enhanced hardcore, or GWX OneAlex or GWX Knights Cross you will find a zip file with all the game files patched up and ready to go. VIRUS CHECK IT - I've never heard of a problem but you never know. You then just need to unzip these somewhere not under Program Files or Program Files (x86), select compatibility mode for sh3.exe to Windows 7 and go. To allow this to happen you MUST have purchased a legal copy of the original game somehow. The game is not quite abandonware and we are all dependant on the continued goodwill/indifference of Ubisoft. They will have difficulty claiming any damages as long as everyone has bought the game. |
