SH4 has a problem that needs a good fix. In SH4 Torpedos do not eject as in SH3. All torpedos kind of fall straight down until in the water.
In SH3 they will eject thus the S-Boot Mod.
You could try the Uber-Boot Mod for SH3 which gives you a killer Submarine that allows some fun Surface shooting.

Have you checked out PT Boats Knights of the Sea?

I think it is on steam for less than $10.00

There is also PT Boats: South Gambit also on Steam

I had lots of fun playing PT-109, but that was about a hundred years ago.

Thank you for suggestion but I checked that game a while ago. Unfortunately it has scripted missions only with no freedom, which does not match my requirements

If you are looking into something like SH3, I would recommend checking out UBOAT which is an improved SH3 with modern graphics.
