And only use T1 steam and T2 elektric torpedoes.

Using those upgraded homing torpedoes are too easy i think. Or FAT or LUT torpedoes. Never used them honestly. But late war, 1943 until 1945. The enemies are much harder. So i guess. Giving you better equipmemt is actually balancing everything.

When you start late 1939, you basically have no upgrades. But a lot of merchants are traveling alone.

I started at the beginning of the war to get combat experience and to enjoy Happy Times so I got used to default G7a and G7e torpedoes.

And the large torpedo load of Type IXB is great there.

well, I tried the Type II but I was missing the deckgun, so I moved to Flotilla with Type VIIB.

I was thinking to start a career with the IIA or IID. A small career early war.
From lets say, 1939 to mid 1940. Couple of short patrols. Yes, not having the deck gun is a bit annoying.
But when i play with the Type II, i sometimes wait for big targets.
Would be nice to sink a battleship, cruiser, or aircraft carrier, or big merchant ships with a type II.

I want to make the 5 torpedoes i have, really count.
But sometimes it takes a bit of time, to encounter big targets. I even spotted some merchants, but small tankers/freighters. around 1000-1500 tons.
I actually ignored them. But then i was thinking... It doesn't make sense to just ignore the enemy haha. Even when you see a small target, you have to sink it. Thats why the deckgun comes in handy, but the type II doesn't have that.

The IX boats are great for long patrols. If i remember correctly you have 22 torpedoes? You can basically return from 1 patrol with 22 ships sunk (even more if you use the strong 10.5mm deckgun)

For a perfect balanced game, i like the VIIC or VIIB. Medium patrols with a decent amount of torpedoes, and a decent 88mm deck gun.

I actually never used the XXI uboat.

beginning of war is ideal for deckgun. That is why I want it.

yeah, I sink small ships too - with deckgun and flak. Torpedoes are great for bigger targets and for DDs.

yes, 22 torpedoes. I love to have so many torpedoes.
Definitely more than 22 ships with that deckgun and heavy flak
