definitely the original series has the edge every time...
if anything the newer series and spin offs are just too stright laced and "cool"... they have the occasional moment of stress or humour but apart from that the characters are all more like data than data is...

good old Shatner....collapsing on his knees in despair shouting "SPOCK!!!...SPOCK!!!" or rolling his eyes with sweat pouring from his forehead....slamming his desk with his fists and screaming at people...close ups of the characters faces showing extreme emotion or distress brings the whole thing to life and makes more relevant to-day than it ever was...

emotion in modern media is so stage managed that it has become actually a bit creepy....certainly completely artificail..give me scotty chasing kirk down a hall way shouting "I canny change the laws of physics captain"
and kirk falling on his knees screaming to the heavens " NO!!!!!!!!" everytime....the rocks on every planet are all made of polysterene..but the characters are full blown Shakespearean human beings..
another reason for like-ing the Revenge of Khan movie..the language...(as mentioned!!) is stunning...such pleasure in the simple exercise of the human tongue can't beat it!!

as August showed!!

Quote:
"Kirk, He tasks me. He tasks me, and I shall have him. I'll chase him 'round the moons of Nibia and 'round the Antares Maelstrom and 'round perdition's flame before I give him up!"
or

Quote:
i'm gonna kill the b*st*rd
i know which works better for me!! don't care if no-body talks like Khan anymore...maybe they should...life would be so much more colourfull!!

No, it would take away all the 60's cheesiness and charm.
How about doing the same thing to The Prisoner, or UFO, or Space 1999 (first season only), or all the shows in supermarionation ?
Those series are great because they trascend the 60's era.
Space 1999 (year one) has been digitally restored from new high definition transfers from the 35m print. 100 times better than the old VHS 16m print the picture is great and lots of goodies thrown in as well.

Star Trek 6.... 8 out of 10

the next gen was mostly ok, a few cracking episodes a few really naff ones (wesley crusher must die). ds9 i never really watched, saw the station kill a load of my favourite ships (klingon birds of prey) and i felt like the scriptwriters had turned a powerful ship into cannon fodder. i never forgave them for that.

voyager and enterprise were jst a bit naff.

i stopped watching enterprise after the captain said 'we have a saying on earth' for the 50th time in the space of 2 episodes.

I´ve seen some of the originals and I liked them. As for the newer ones, I´m more of a Babylon 5 guy.

I agree, except I don't consider B5 to be a series; rather a 180-hour-long movie.

But my first love is Firefly.

Great series and my favorite science fiction series to date.
G'Kar and Londo are some of the most endeering characters ever to grace the small screen.

For those wishing a confrontation between Babylon 5 and ST I recomned this Finnish fan made film : Star Wreck in The Pirkinning.
Absolutely top notch production quality, and great sense of humour.

As far as games go, the 25th Aniversary and "Judgement Rites" were pretty decent. If anyone hasn't played them, you 'ought to give a look at them. They might be difficult to get running with full sound -- I haven't tried running them lately, even though I have the disk images saved back onto DVDR.

They are both "original series" games, and like I was saying, have some good parts to them.

That´s why I liked it. Too bad it ended. B5 is still my #1 series.

Wasn't that the episode where they asked Worf about the difference between the Klingon look back then and now?

Worfs reply (something like): "We don't like to talk about that period in the Empire" :rotfl:

Well, there was the sequel, Crusade.

One thing about Star Trek I always admired and liked: They worked in an incredible amount of naval terms. Helm... set a course.... I wish I kept a list of all the cool nautical stuff they say in a show about spaceships.

Tonight while working, I watched "Naked Time". Kirk, that computer-killing, female alien loving bastard--you have to give it to him--he loves his ship. In all the episodes, if anyone messes with his ship, it's trouble with a capital T.
Not big a Trekkie fan, but the original used more theoretical systems than the new one did. I didn't watch many of the original episodes, but I did watch all the movies and enjoyed every one of them. I do have the complete deck plans for a Klingon Battle Cruiser and the USS Enterprise - given to me when I was younger. Hung on to them since they may be worth something at some point in time.
