The Truth is Out There, Trust no One
The bogus Horowitz report, Jan 6 wasn't a riot it was an FBI regime change operation.

And now Trump is telling his followers that prices will go up, but only temporarily, completely counter to his political stumping since forever. Enjoy!

The U.S. imports 80% of softwood lumber from Canada. Congratulations, the cost of building on January 20, 2025 will be up by 25%. The last time Trump put tariffs on Canadian softwood, plywood went up 200% per sheet. Canada is the largest foreign supplier of energy to the U.S. Tariffs on oil, natural gas, or electricity means increase costs for U.S. consumers and businesses, especially during the Winter months. Canada exports 3.2 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and 1.4 billion barrels of oil to the US. 2018 tariff on China, China retaliated with a tariff, this was about grain/soybeans. China went to Canada for grain and South Africa for soybeans, devastating US farmers and cost the US 10s of billions in loses.

Isolationism rules, or not. I think not is the most likely outcome, but we will see in the next year. Enjoy.

Are you sure it was the tariff during Trumps first term? The price of building materials for homes skyrocketed with COVID.

About tariffs, that money is paid by Americans. It is American importers who pay the tariffs, not the exporters you target, and many of those American importers pass along the costs to U.S. consumers.

Ah, that old, hoary courtroom ploy: "Do you still beat your wife? Answer yes or no!"...

Neither yes nor no, just a qualified maybe. My initial point in my response to you post was to show how the rationale for the ousting of Biden suffices just as well for the ousting of Trump after his failed first term; neither is a bell ringer for reelection and neither is better than the other; it is interesting how the GOP and the MAGAts seem to be stating that the failure and resounding repudiation by the voters of Trump in 2020 in any way makes him rather more qualified for second go-round at the White House; it is akin to a corporation ousting a failed and flawed CEO, having his replacement leave because of mainly cognitive issues, and then replacing the replacement with the original flawed, ousted sad sack; it causes wonder at the substance and nature of the actual rationale used to reach such a conclusion...

I still stand by my original response...

Trump got fired by the US voters in 2020 and he barely managed to eke out a win over a seriously wounded candidate from a seriously wounded party in 2024; given what he was up against, he really should have done much better (and the GOP also should have done much better 'down ballot') than he did; he didn't even get a majority of the vote; more than 50% of the voters voted for someone other than Trump, all in all not at all a ringing 'mandate'...

Since I am an Independent voter, I am amused by the reactions of the two main parties after the 2024 Elections; the Far Left DEMs are clutching their pearls over what the big bad Orange Meany will do, and the GOP and the Far Right MAGAts are strutting around acting like they've won a really big victory while frantically trying to convince those who haven't drunk the MAGA Kool-Aid (and maybe themselves) that things aren't really all that bad...

then there is this : "What's Past is Prologue..."...

We already know what Trump has done when he had the wheel for four years previously and the mess he mad of it all then and how the voters turned on him and dumped his sorry ass; there is no reason to believe Trump will be any different this time around; and the legislative situation is the same as when Trump and the GOP first took office in 2017: they will have the Oval Office, the Senate, and the House under their control; they had an ideal opportunity to accomplish a lot of their agenda(s) but all they got through was an extravagant and expensive tax cut for the uber-rich and nothing more in the first two years; the voters then revolted and and handed back the House to the DEMs in the 2018 mid-terms effectively hamstringing Trump and the GOP/MAGA in any further efforts; the loss of the House was the direct result of Trump and the GOP getting too caught up in petty vindictiveness and intraparty squabbling and ignoring the needs of the voters...

And, within the House, the GOP failed to control its own members and let the various factions of MAGA to eat up time and effort better used to actually address vital issues and instead displaying an incompetence and disarray that was astonishing, from being unable to cogently and coherently creating and managing any meaningful legislation to being laughingly incapable of even establishing a House Speaker for prolonged periods of time, resulting in legislative paralysis; not one of the finer moments and/or appearances of the GOP...

So, what do we have now? Trump is in the Oval Office, busily plotting how to get even with those he believes slighted him by being "mean" to him, appointing all manner of sycophants and fellow billionaires/multi-millionaire/ crackpots to 'run' his administration, all of which does little to really address the needs of the voters and citizens and with really little to offer in terms of solid programs or ideas (remember, Trump is the person, who when pressed to state his health care reform plan to replace the ACA, responded by saying he had "the concept of a plan"); so, essentially, we have 2017 Trump once again...

The pearl clutching DEMs should really relax; "what's past is prologue" and we've already seen this movie play out; Trump will bluster and blunder his way through the first couple of years, the House will do its implosion dance with the various MAGA factions sniping at each other and nothing getting done, and, in 2026, at the Midterm Elections, when the Trumptanic II runs aground (again) the voters will revolt and give back the house the the DEMs and the hopes and plans of Trump, the MAGAts, and the GOP will be stalled again; and, given that by the time the 2026 Midterms roll around, voters will have reaped the "benefits" of Trump/GOP economics in the form of higher prices, shrinking income, job losses, and governmental dysfunction, the election results may be more damaging than before; DEMs, the GOP is mapping its own failure and doing what has been cited as the definition of insanity: repeating a failed endeavor the same way expecting a different result...
