![]() Not really such a big deal when you consider Josef Stalin (1939, 1942), Adolph Hitler (1938), Ayatollah Khomeini (1979), and Vladimir Putin (2007), among other dubious selections have made it to Time's Peron of the Year covers (in fact, some of the covers have been for multiple persons or for what would today be termed 'memes'); being on the cover does not mean the 'honorees' are being noted for being notable in a positive sense, but, rather, they made some kind of significant impact, good or bad on that particular year's news cycle(s)... <O>

...Hmmm... Would you have worded that post in this manner in 2020?... Quote:
Trump got fired by the US voters in 2020 and he barely managed to eke out a win over a seriously wounded candidate from a seriously wounded party in 2024; given what he was up against, he really should have done much better (and the GOP also should have done much better 'down ballot') than he did; he didn't even get a majority of the vote; more than 50% of the voters voted for someone other than Trump, all in all not at all a ringing 'mandate'... <O>

Since 2000, all president-elects’ end up on the cover. We keep forgetting that Time Person of the Year is not “the good guy of the year” it’s “the most important one.” Trump is for sure important.

Pretty sure that the US isn't getting free electricity from Canada. It would be a big revenue loss. Ford is not known for his smarts.

Problem with trade wars is you get hit back it is not that Canada bends over if Trump does a 25% tariff expect a payback and trade wars has had never a winner. America is not the only market, so most countries will move to other markets, America is not unique.

America is Canada's number one trading partner. Two thirds of our trade is with the US. Canada's population is 41 million. The US population is 340 million. Who do you think would win a trade war?

^Mainly US imports and exports themselves are hit by import tariffs in the wake of a trade war. The Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis (CPB) figures that the US will export 20% less. Dutch imports and exports will fall by only about 1%. The decline in some manufacturing industries is larger. Dutch service providers actually benefit from higher US import tariffs on goods.
This happened last time. The trade war between the United States and China does not have only losers. Asian and South American countries in particular benefit from the superpowers raising import tariffs back and forth. There are also opportunities for European companies. US pig farmers are going down the drain for hundreds of millions thanks to the trade war and have to move to other countries. Soy farmers in the US are also left with mountains of often rotting away crops. In China, meanwhile, consumer goods producers are hit especially hard. Yet there are also benefits from the conflict. More than a year after the US introduced the first duties, Japanese investment bank Nomura concludes that the US and China have started importing fewer goods from each other and are now buying certain products from other countries. That extra trade is significantly jacking up the economy in some countries. In particular, the US is getting less computer electronics, electrical appliances and furniture from China. Conversely, the Chinese mainly import less soybeans, aircraft, grains and cotton from the US, Nomura concludes. Those products are now being sourced elsewhere, and the big winner is Vietnam. That country's gross domestic product (GDP) is up 7.9 per cent this year due to new trade with the US in particular, according to a Nomura estimate. Those products are now being sourced elsewhere, and the big winner is Vietnam. That country's gross domestic product (GDP) is up 7.9 per cent this year due to new trade with the US in particular, according to a Nomura estimate. Americans are buying electrical equipment there for phones and other electronics that were otherwise bought in China. Taiwan and South Korea are also benefiting from additional trade with the US in that area. Meanwhile, Malaysia sells semiconductors and South Korea and Mexico export more motor vehicle parts to the US. In particular, China is buying much more soya from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Canada. Gold the Chinese get more from Hong Kong, Singapore and South Africa, and natural gas comes more often from Malaysia and Australia. European countries are also benefiting. France and Germany are supplying more planes and aircraft parts to China thanks to the trade war, Nomura said. ‘The benefit for European countries is greatest in France (0.3 per cent), but small overall,’ the economists write. There are opportunities for European companies to emerge as surprise winners in the trade dispute, David Owen, chief economist Europe at US investment bank Jefferies, told Bloomberg in May. If US levies make importing products from China less competitive, it is an opportunity for European companies to benefit, According to Owen, trade wars create ‘winners among losers’. This often seems to be forgotten and lost among all the negativity surrounding the issue, Owen said. Still, Nomura economists stress that there will mostly be losers from the trade war. |

According to analysts, Canadian oil accounts for 20% of US energy supply. Higher tariffs could increase US petrol prices by up to 70 cents per gallon. This!! You at the petrol station will be the biggest loser! For US consumers, import duties mean higher prices for everyday goods! MAGA except for its citizen duh. You all can think you are so great but I and the rest of Europe have to work lesser are protected by health insurance, guaranteed pension and have shyte load more holiday days for same or higher living standard. And yes we can biaach about that also, but as decadent rich bitches we biaach about everything.

^Dream on good luck at the gas station, you do not import 20% without a reason, those are long-running contracts. "Trump already has Trudeau worried." It Is Trudeau's poker face, he is playing the game. You do not even know who is playing you, but be sure it has an orange glow. Your saviour has already admitted he can't bring down grocery prices. Why do some wage slaves defend billionaires so much?
So inevitable, another lie Another reason to justify tearing it down Honesty, such a novelty So we king ourselves with an orange crown Casualty of a daydream nation Close acquaintance, no relation Search and destroy Dignity we left laying along the way To everyone's dismay Predictable cliché So caught up in the process of weeding out The chopping block starving for a neck Pointing fingers and stabbing backs Never question conformity The big takeover underway Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?
