My cable TV has a channel running the 3 series on saturday, Next Generation followed by Deep Space 9 and then Voyager. It's the best thing to watch on TV in the day.

On a scale of 1 to 100:

Star Trek II rates a 95. That movie had absolutely outstanding casting, they worked it around "Moby Dick" (and a little bit of "Tale of Two Cities), which ended up being an outstanding book to choose for the plot structure. The music soundtrack was phenomenal, as well. I actually listen to it when I'm jogging.

Star Trek VI rates a 90. The plot has some issues, mainly with the bloody moon blowing up and the shock-wave managing to travel faster than light, but its premise with the Russkie's/Klingons was a good choice.

ST1 rates an 80. It was good for it's time.

ST3 rates a 75. It has it's moments.

ST4 rates a 60. It has a few odds and ends that are nifty.

ST5 rates a....Christ.....I don't know. I need bleach for my brain, or something.

The series was really good for it's time, and there are episodes that I still like. Some of them have too much morality to them for me to agree with, but I can enjoy them in a late-1960's context. I'm not enough of a Trekkie to remember the names of individual episodes, but there's probably 15 that stand out amongst the rest, and another 30 that I like.

=======================================

The new generation movies have a few good parts (I believe I've watched all of them). I liked the series better than the movies. It was nice that Data got his emotion chip, and Geordi got his optical biomodifications. The chick that did the Borg Queen was sexcellent, and later in Voyager.

Speaking of Voyager, those some good parts, too. As many or more than NextGen. At some point, they just ran out of morality to discuss, and that was part of the problem with the Enterprise series (I watched the first 13, and a few up to #22).

========================================

On a related, but seperate topic, I generally consider America's liberals to follow the "Star Trek Religion". It's the religion where you have 1 hour of tough moral choices, and then everyone heads to the replicator to get a granola bar and some Earl Grey tea and listen to Data play the violin.

Agreed

Edit: On the topic of William Shatner, he seems to have mellowed out these days and takes him self less seriously. He’s also quite funny, check him out congratulating Gorge Lucas for a lifetime achievement award of some sort…
Cool clip, check out this one, something called Star Trek Blitz
=

And this is a cool one by Shatner

Shatner played the role of Kirk brilliantly. Few movie stars can bring something like that off.

Get a grip it's a TV show sit back and enjoy, Star Trek may look dated, by heck I would regard it alot better than the rubbish on TV today.
Yeah, I never got into the Next Generation. Seemed to derivative from the original. Data bugged me, he was like a cross between the tin man and a watered-down Spock, and what's with the kid and the Klingon on the bridge? Once I retire I'll give it a second look. The special effects are superb, too bad Kirk and co. didn't have that available to them in the 60's.

I liked the original Star Trek better than any of the "next generations". My favorite movie with the original cast was The Wrath of Kahn.

No, it would take away all the 60's cheesiness and charm.
How about doing the same thing to The Prisoner, or UFO, or Space 1999 (first season only), or all the shows in supermarionation ?
Those series are great because they trascend the 60's era.

Yep my two most favorite ST films are Star Trek : The Motion Picture and Wrath of Khan.
Those were the times , from there the whole franchise just went downhill (except for DS9).

DS9 had an excellent episode where they digitally copied material from Trouble with Tribbles and DS9 into the same pictures. The DS9 crew did a timejump back into that episode and then effectivel yplayed within the frame of that episode, wearing those old dresses and somewhat interacting with the old Shatner crew.

Trials and Tribbleations....great episode!

(Seeing Kirk and Spock in the corridor)
Jadzia: I had no idea.
Sisko: What?
Jadzia: He's so much more handsome in person. Those eyes.
Sisko: Kirk had quite the reputation as a ladies man.
Jadzia: Not him - Spock!
