ok, you're playing TMO_BH. yes, BH inserted targets that will always be present when you play the mission. in stock and other mods, there are photo missions that do NOT have purposeful targets at the destination.

when you are looking at the mission through the ME, notice that the target is actually named "Target". it was built and placed where it is purposefully. lock onto it through your periscope while you are within range of the zone and the camera icon, on the periscope toolbar, will activate and allow you to take your photo.

ok, a couple of details.....
photo objective will have a zone (circular), which may or may not have a graphic when you are playing. the player must be in that zone or the camera icon will not activate. some modders will use a zone marker so that the player can see it when he arrives onsite, others do not. and there is no standard for the radius of the zone circle. it can be 3,5,7,8 thousand yards.

when i refer to the camera icon being activated i mean that when a player has fulfilled all of the qualifying requirements to take the photo, passing your mouse over the camera icon will change the color/lighting of the icon. that is the player's sign that he can actually take a photo.

i hope this helps.
So, the problem isn't that I don't know how to photograph them. The problem is once I am at the location and I am looking through the scope there is no target to lock onto to photograph. However when I look at the mission target on ME it shows a target. I tried to upload a picture but the website isn't working for some reason.

Anyways, if you check "Photo Honshu 02 mission" you should see what I am talking about.

Thanks

Ok, so after playing with the Mission Editor all evening I managed to fix the problem. The Targets were way too far inland to lock on to. So I moved the Target icons over some land turrets so I can photograph them and complete the mission.

Thanks for the help!

it looks like our posts missed each other by 1 minute or two.

i did some testing and came to the same conclusion: that the targets are very small and because of that it becomes impossible to lock onto them when they are not is direct line-of-sight to your scope.

i also discovered that playing with manual targeting on and no map updates on, one cannot lock onto the "targets" because of their size, or lack of size.

however if one places a ship in the vicinity, one can "lock" onto to it sufficiently to get credit for a photo.

so, in this use case, size does matter.

also, the renown value of the "targets" must be at least 10 times what the Photo Value is inside of the Mission. if you updated that previously then you got the benefit of it now.

glad to hear you worked it out and also that you are gaining confidence with the ME. good show!

doing some testing for your situation...

question: what are your gameplay options?

secondly and unrelated to my question, the easiest way to drop graphics into this forum is to get a free membership to a media sharing site such as ImbGG or MediaFire, upload the graphic and then paste the link here.
like this:

or like this:
