Yep been a casual treky fan all my life, I use to watch startrek and Battlestar galattica when a kid. The latest startrek series is rubbish, althoguh i watch them, and remeber one where they went back into time or another dimension where the nazi's were in control of america - america and the nazis were alllies. But the guy who acted as the captain just didn't do it for me. And they added a vulcan female was she related to spock? Or did they just throw her in to keep the fans happy

My favourite episode to do more so with Kirk was The Enemy Within, a transporter accident separates Kirk in two a good one and the evil one, that evil Kirk really looked like a twisted mad man great stuff. My other favourite episode are The Menagerie parts 1 & 2 clever how they revamped the failed pilot episode, Balance of Terror and the classic The Galileo Seven where Spock's logic was hit and miss. And Tomorrow Is Yesterday, Court Martial, The Return of the Archons, Space Seed which was followed by Star Trek 2 as a follow up nice touch. A Taste of Armageddon, The Devil in the Dark, Errand of Mercy, The Alternative Factor which as I recall was the only episode that showed the Enterprise firing it's phasers from the stern view and to wrap up season one The City on the Edge of Forever,Operation Annihilate.
As I move on to season two who can forget that classic story Mirror Mirror Where the Federation is the Empire and a very ruthless one at that. The Doomsday Machine another good one and who can leave out the Halloween episode Cat's Paw. Another great Kirk episode was Obsession where Kirk comes face to face with the vampire cloud, Wolf in the Fold sees Sotty on trail for murder. The tongue in cheek gangster episode A Piece of the Action who can forget Kirk driving the car scene, The Immunity Syndrome and A private Little War, Patton's of Force which was a well I shall say no more on that one. The Ultimate Computer another good one seeing Kirk once again beats the computer. And finally the not so good season three, The Enterprise Incident and Spectre of the Gun along with The Day of the Dove were good episodes the rest were weak or daft. Fred Freiberger who was bought in on season three as far as I am concerned killed Star Trek and latter on he killed Gery Andersons Space 1999.

Was The Doomsday Machine the one woth the planet killer. Yes, just watched that one this morning, great scoring. Loved the way Spock backed Kirk's actions re: the Commodore.
Someday I think people will view Roddenberry as the Jules Verne of our time.

I love the original Star Trek. It's the only one I really cared for. After the series was over I enjoyed a few of the movies they did together like the one about the whales. Good Stuff.
I've been watching some of the original Star Trek episodes on the G4 network. If you don't know about it, some of the episodes are done in an interractive way by featuring Trek trivia and stats, called "Star Trek 2.0". |

Yep, got all three seasons of Star trek on DVD. I’ll need to get them out of the box again and watch ‘em soon. On a different note is interesting to see the different lengths between the original star trek episodes (50 minuets) and modern shows (45 or even 40 minuets) You sure get better value for money back then.
I have to say of the films I enjoyed star trek II, III, IV most. They were almost like a trilogy in there way. Star trek III seems to get a panning from a lot of people but it has two of the best scenes in any star trek film in my opinion. The stealing of the Enterprise and its eventual destruction were very spectacular and it was quite sad in a way to see the old girl go. Of the later incarnations of trek I enjoyed Deep Space 9 and The Next Generation, though the first few seasons of TNG were not so hot. Data says: “Sir, Romulan warbird de-cloaking of the starboard bow” Captain Jean-Luc Picard replies: “Hmm, better have a conference in the ready room” On the subject ‘Enterprise’, that was really bad. I always new a prequel would be a bad idea and even then they really did not take the series in the right direction. Not being a diehard fan that knows all about the history of the Federation or anything I thought it would have been interesting to explore the early years of Human inter-stellar space travel leading up to the eventual foundation of the Federation. Something like looking at long story arcs dealing with budding relationships between Humans and other races. Maybe even a first Klingon war/skirmishes and hostility with the Romulan Empire. Instead they came up with some drivel about a temporal cold war? Eh? All righty then. Ever since Rick Berman & Brannon Braga started buggring about with trek it has all gone down hill. That Braga fellow never really wrote an episode of anything that I enjoyed. He seemed to love his techno babble too. Like “re-connect the rear port transducer to the starboard phase discriminator and bypass the central dylitham coupler”. Nuts! What was it Harrison Ford said to Gorge that one time? “You can type this &%$£ but you can say it.” Edit: On the topic of William Shatner, he seems to have mellowed out these days and takes him self less seriously. He’s also quite funny, check him out congratulating Gorge Lucas for a lifetime achievement award of some sort…

What bugs me about the fans of the off shoots from Star Trek they bang on about how much the special effects are so much better
![]() ![]() Get a grip it's a TV show sit back and enjoy, Star Trek may look dated, by heck I would regard it alot better than the rubbish on TV today.

On a scale of 1 to 100:
Star Trek II rates a 95. That movie had absolutely outstanding casting, they worked it around "Moby Dick" (and a little bit of "Tale of Two Cities), which ended up being an outstanding book to choose for the plot structure. The music soundtrack was phenomenal, as well. I actually listen to it when I'm jogging. Star Trek VI rates a 90. The plot has some issues, mainly with the bloody moon blowing up and the shock-wave managing to travel faster than light, but its premise with the Russkie's/Klingons was a good choice. ST1 rates an 80. It was good for it's time. ST3 rates a 75. It has it's moments. ST4 rates a 60. It has a few odds and ends that are nifty. ST5 rates a....Christ.....I don't know. I need bleach for my brain, or something. The series was really good for it's time, and there are episodes that I still like. Some of them have too much morality to them for me to agree with, but I can enjoy them in a late-1960's context. I'm not enough of a Trekkie to remember the names of individual episodes, but there's probably 15 that stand out amongst the rest, and another 30 that I like. ======================================= The new generation movies have a few good parts (I believe I've watched all of them). I liked the series better than the movies. It was nice that Data got his emotion chip, and Geordi got his optical biomodifications. The chick that did the Borg Queen was sexcellent, and later in Voyager. Speaking of Voyager, those some good parts, too. As many or more than NextGen. At some point, they just ran out of morality to discuss, and that was part of the problem with the Enterprise series (I watched the first 13, and a few up to #22). ======================================== On a related, but seperate topic, I generally consider America's liberals to follow the "Star Trek Religion". It's the religion where you have 1 hour of tough moral choices, and then everyone heads to the replicator to get a granola bar and some Earl Grey tea and listen to Data play the violin. |

I liked the original Star Trek better than any of the "next generations". My favorite movie with the original cast was The Wrath of Kahn.

= And this is a cool one by Shatner = Shatner played the role of Kirk brilliantly. Few movie stars can bring something like that off.
