[Tagesspiegel] Despite the war in Ukraine, the European Union still imports almost a fifth of its natural gas from Russia. Compared to last year, imports have even increased again, according to an energy report published by the EU Commission in Brussels on Wednesday. Russia remains the largest supplier for Slovakia, Hungary and Austria.
According to the report, the EU countries imported 18% of their natural gas from Russia in the first half of 2024, corresponding to 25.4 billion cubic meters. In the first half of last year, however, this figure was only 14%, or a total of 21.2 billion cubic meters. Russia thus overtook the USA and once again became the EU's second largest supplier after Norway.

![]() Russia's pressure is so intense that Ukraine was forced to consume the reserves it planned to use 2025 to go on the offensive next year for suppoorting the relief manouver in Kursk. Still, the bait was not swallowed by Russia, and the pressure in Donbass remains as high, may even be higher, than before. Anmd now tell me, tell Reisnerk, tell anybody: how will the ukraine follow its announce dplan to be defenisve in 2024 and gio on the offensiove next year...? And the follow-up question: who was baiting whom here? It could be that the operation in Kursk is much more expensive for the Ukrainians in the long run than is apparent at first glance.

There are hooks attached, there must be. Last time when they said they give ATACMS, it took some days for the public to learn that it was "only 100km deep into Russia".
The hook this time could be that they announce so early in advance the plan to unleash the full range of ATACMS - so to give dear Russia time and opportunity to adapt and prepare early, so to minimise the impact of this "change" and to thelp the Russians reducing their losses and vulnerabilities ahead of the longer distance attacks. I wish America and Europe would show similar concerns about the losses and destructions suffered by Ukraine. Mind you, it was most likely (its the only reasonable explanation) American intervention that stopped the Ukainian counterattack at Cherson early in the war and to capture or annihilate all Russian troops there. Instead, these Russian troops were allowed to esacape not under fire, and then were shuttled to the eastern theatre and there they did what they then did. Great. If I were Russian, I could only frantically giggle about such amounts of foolishness and maybe laugh myself to death. - Maybe that is the Western masterplan?

Yes, many in the West fell for that bluff - and still do.
Instead of falling to being intimidated like Biden and Scholz, the correct reaction would have been counterthreatening, followed by deeds showing the serious preparation. Thats how the cold war did not turn into a hot war: deterrance by MAD. In the end it were most likely the Americans falling Ukraine into its sword arm. And the Ukrainians paid bitterly for this. Those thousands of Russian troops escaping caused later on a lot of destruction and killing and loss of ground. They build defences that spoiled the Ukrainian offensive 2023. Дякую за це, Байден. Ми любимо вмирати за твої витівки. You dont win a war by saving your enemy, but by becoming his nemesis. You want preventing hellfire? Threaten to unleash hellfire. Scholz is a coward by nature. Biden a senile old fool thinking in constructs no longer valid: that of balancing deterrance in the past cold war.

It has nothing to do with Biden, Scholz, freedom, democracy or Ukrainian borders. Especially Biden hell, I haven’t seen him in months.
It has everything to with untapped oil reserves THAT is where our interest lay. Which Zelensky put up for sale last September to the tune of 400,000,000 billion dollars and western oil companies are already investing heavily. As of late 2019, known Ukrainian reserves amounted to 1.09 trillion cubic meters of natural gas, second only to Norway’s known resources of 1.53 trillion cubic meters. Yet, these enormous reserves of energy remain largely untapped. According to some estimates, the EU will import around 90 percent of the gas it consumes by 2030. Thus, during the next decade, Brussels will be increasingly eager to diversify the origins and routes of the European gas supply. Currently the vast majority of oil and gas it received from Russia comes from Siberia. Ukraines resources are untapped. This seems like Operation Barbarossa II. See that dotted red line? That is the border which matter.. ![]() Last edited by Rockstar; 09-12-24 at 05:42 AM. |
