Hadn't thought of a minefield. I assumed you were in open ocean. Were you insight of the ship when it went down?

I was on my third patrol October 1939 in the North Sea. I must admit the sea had turned a bit rough but in my opinion not so bad that it could sink a merchant. Even if the weather were responsible would you see lots of smoke as though the ship had blown up? I didn't actually see the ship sink, I was at the navigation station at the time and the contact icon just switched to the sunk ship icon and I went up to the bridge and saw lots of smoke on the horizon.

Just last week I came across a lone small merchant that was dead in the water and burning. It was still a good target, so I put it down. My guess for mine and the other guy was a mine.

What normally happens when the weather kills a ship is that is catches fire first, depending on the mods you have, where ther'e fire there's smoke

I've never seen anything larger than a Coastal Merchant/Tramp Steamer sink itself in bad weather. The Luftwaffe doesn't come out much when it rains so I doubt it was them.

Don's suppose you had saved just before you went after him? If you haven't progressed too fare you could always go back in time and take a look at him with the external camera and see who else is about.

I think it was a coastal merchant. So it would seem the weather might have played a part in it's demise after all. Unfortunately I didn't save just beforehand so it wouldn't be easy to go back and have another look.
