Have you checked the Menu_1024_768.ini file? Your chronometer could be off the screen, and would need to have the Pos= values changed to bring it back in -- I had a similar problem a few years ago. The Pos= values I use are: Pos=27,-216,35,45. These place the chronometer at the bottom of my screen. I use a 1920x1080 monitor, so values might need to be different on a different size screen.
