Indeed, I think that the Destroyers in TWOS are too precise and aggressive, I even think even more than they could have been in real life.
In my experience, I have seen destroyers have a 30 minute threshold without detection of any kind to stop hunting you. If they re-acquire contact, util they lost contact will be another 30 minutes. Therefore, my strategy is, before any submerged attack, as a matter of principle I already have Silent Running active, and I maintain it all the time, post attack: immediately after launching the torpedoes, dive with engines stopped beyond 100m depth where Sonar is no longer so accurate... if they haven't detected me, it will be enough to wait 30 minutes... So, go Silent, go Deep... In most cases it works for me...
