I the guy next door has a new DELL gaming coumpter, and he tells me that SHIII

is not the smoothest running game, and with Sea Wolves it runs a little harder,

and not as smooth has the raw game itself! He has FS2004 he thinks is the smoothest running, and Falcon 4 is good also. Will I was thinking on updating but,

I guss I will hold off for sometime.

Actually, SHIII doesnt require 100000fps to run somewhat smoothly. With my last PC, I had 10-12fps and it was pretty smooth.

My current PC is:
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
2GB of RAM
GF7800GTX

and I have 50-80fps.

You really cant compare FS2004 and Falcon 4 with SHIII, as they are years older games. Besides, MS Flight sims have never been too pretty.

You know what a Dell is - a Bell that has no ring an that makes it a DUD! Dud + Bell = Dell! So as any1 can plainly see, Bells and even Dells are not related to PC's in anyway shape or form.

If you buy a Dell the clerk or person ringing up your purchass should say:

Actually, Dell doesn't manufacture anything. More...theu really do not have any proprietory technologies (unlike IBm or HP....or many other brands).

Sure....all other brands do the same thing, but at least then put some nice technologies beside the components.




My advice. Build you computer. If you don't know how, go to the store, they will gladly do it for you. Ask a friend. You"ll pay less for a better computer in this way.



Oh, and other think. Go for it, wheter it's Intel, AMD, ATI, Nvidia.....discussions like "ATI sucks, Nvidia rulz" "AMD rocks..." are childish. Sure, there are advantages and disadvantages, but they can be debated in a mature way.

I used to do freelance computer repair. Dell's aren't a bad deal for average users. For people who don't have a lot of time or expertise the big vendors have a place.

Last time I priced a new PC you could get a Dell for a lot cheaper than the sum of the parts. Granted, Dell doesn't use the fastest stuff for most of thier computers. They tend to find parts that are cheap, stable and plentiful. Also, all dell's come with a sticker (service tag). You go to the site and put in that number to get a list of all the drivers and hardware and manuals and so on. Pretty handy.

Last time I had to call tech support, they actually answered the phone and were as helpful as possible.

They have made some mistakes. The Optiplex line from about 3 years ago have problems with power supplies croaking if they lose power (like you kick the plug, like I did at work). Years ago they bought a large batch of off-brand sound cards that sucked pretty bad. I think they learned that lesson.

My home PC is a custom rig, but at work we use mostly dell's on the desktop and they are pretty good deal IMHO.

Of course, if you want a real power house gaming rig, build your own or go to Alienware or Falcon Northwest. Dell is like the Honda of the computer world. :p

For ppl who know nothing about computers Dell has good support. The one person I know with one has told me impressive stories of the support he has got.

We have all had the friend who knows nothing and after trying to help them you think they should require a license to buy a computer.... wouldn't you rather they had someone else to call?

I hate computers in cars. Machine should be pure not computerized..... Thats why its so difficult to fix those darn cars yourself. Computer in the car = death to backyard mechanics...

Ppphhhhtttt. Not to take this off topic, but you take your computer enabled car down to Advanced Autoparts or Autozone, where they read the code for free. Then you test whichever sensor is freaking out, and either replace it, or figure out the electric wiring and see where it's gone bad.

Granted, you become more of an electrician than a wrencher, but them's the times... . Still better than tuning a carb, which drives me absolutely crazy. Gimme a computer any day...

Not to run this thread more off-topic than it already is, but I'm planning on slapping a laptop running Linux into my car soon. That'll make it stable . (Why? MP3 music player, and onboard OBD2 diagnostic services so I don't have to turn to the previously mentioned services to tell what sensor just died).

Back on topic, I agree with Highbury. Dell's great for people who know me but don't know computers. Phone support is not great, but it gives me a reason to charge friends who don't want to deal with their support.

I bought the $299 dells for work , I replaced every machine at the office for the same price the boss paid for one machine in 98. Which made the boss happy which in turn he made me happy $1.25 hour raise . No problems in 2 years . With that said I build my own and have built gaming rigs for my friends because its cheaper and better componets on the high end stuff.
