Default Re: Radar woes

Don't want to state anything too obvious but have you upgraded your sub? I couldn't suss out how to use the radar for ages and then when I had enough renown to install SJ and SD radar it all started working and gave me the options to switch radar on/off and sweep/search on the orders bar.

Hope this helps and if not then sorry.

There ARE known bugs with the radar. Even with it installed and working it will only show contacts while your sub is facing north and not south. There is a fix for this in the Mods section where some clever guys found all the radars were set to only scan in one heading direction apparently thinking they were making it scan in only one compass direction.

Also, it appears early in the war the radar displays and switches are disabled since patch 1.1 although the radars work in that contacts show up on the map and crew report them.

If I got that right you'll even get radar contacts without any radar installed, too.

By the way, your admiration for that ardent Nazi Rudel is, well, rather unpleasant

I was going to post a similar thread, but I figured the game was just broken and I would have to wait for a patch.

Your a bit off there Pv, the radar scans in all directions but only when your sub is heading in the northerly directions of heading 280 - 080, anything directly east, west, or anywhere towards the south it wont work. Also the radar buttons and switches all work just fine, you just have to upgrade the sub to include SJ radar. Try starting a career in 1943 and buy the SJ radar, then at harbor in hawaii turn the sub towards the south, you'll see what I mean then, and turn the sub again towards the north, suddenly the contacts come back. Same rules apply for SD radar, but get the fixes in the mod section and SJ radar will work as normal no matter which way your traveling.

Cruise,

My understanding is exactly as you've described it. With the sim mod I now get contacts displayed no matter what direction I face. I've been anxiously awaiting advancing may career into 42 to get the radar screens and switches to work.

Default Radar not working

I have found the following:
1. I am on my third patrol, March 1942.

2. I have upgraded radar as far as the game will allow, I have plenty of renoun to spend.

3. The radar crew will pick up aircraft and ships, every time, no matter which way I am facing. So too the sonar and its crew.

4.Most of the icons in the orders panel for Radar AND Sonar, will NOT function when I click them with the mouse.

5.There is no mention of only the player only being able to use Radar late in the game in the SH4 manual.

Rudel was simply a patriot of his country and well, excelled at killing Russian Tanks which frankly looking back 80 years later we all should have wished for and saved us the cold war, Vietnam, Korea and many other brush wars along with 13 days in 1962.
