Israel says it takes over a Hamas "stronghold" in northern Gaza after a 10-hour battle.

Hamas-run authorities say Israeli air strikes continued overnight, including in Khan Younis in the south, where six people were reportedly killed.

An evacuation route, allowing people to leave northern Gaza for the south, reopens for the fifth day.

Israel says 50,000 Palestinians left the Gaza City area on Wednesday via that route.

But the Rafah crossing into Egypt is closed, as Hamas wants more injured Palestinians to be let out alongside foreign passport holders.

The US says that Israel will begin to implement four-hour military pauses in areas of northern Gaza each day to allow civilians to flee.

White House spokesman John Kirby says the move represents a "significant first step"

Earlier the Israeli military said "there are tactical, local pauses for humanitarian aid for Gazan civilians" and made clear "there is no ceasefire"

The Islamic Jihad group in Gaza has released a video of two Israeli hostages - an elderly woman and a boy.

There has been fighting between Israel and Hamas close to the Al Quds hospital in Gaza City.

Our correspondent in the Gaza Strip reports "a real gun battle" in the area.

Meanwhile, the Hamas-controlled health ministry in Gaza says Israel has carried out airstrikes on or near at least three hospitals.

Israel has confirmed its military is operating close to Al-Shifa, the biggest hospital in Gaza City.

Videos circulating on social media show what appears to be the aftermath of a missile or mortar striking the hospital courtyard.

Hamas said they are proud to sacrifice their people for the Hamas fat cats' cause who live a life in luxury in far away safe places.



Rooting out a cancer tumour is a bloody business. I have not heard any realistic working alternative plan so far. And please nobody now says "two states". I am already sceptical about the two states plan in the very long time perspective, but in the immediate, present time frame it is hilarious to assume it would be a workign "solution".


Palestinian Arabs could have had peace and a moderate wealth due to trade and labour relations with Israel since years. They always, at every opportunity, decided against that.
