The accent that people associate with pirates is modeled after actor Robert Newton's portrayal of Long John Silver in TREASURE ISLAND. Newton (a Royal Navy vet) grew up in Cornwall and used an exaggerated West Country accent for the role.

Don't get me started on Zap.

You could buy a brand new Zap comic book and bag it and place it in a vacuum chamber on the same day and it would still crumble into dust after five to ten years.

I always thought their tag line on each comic book should be:

"ZAP. Because comics are not eternal."

Their paper quality made the white pages in your phone book look like archival material you'd find in the Smithsonian.
