The motor was 9.9 hp Nissan which with altered carburation could be jacked up to 15 hp. ie: 7 knots on motor/ 8 knots under full sail. My neighbor and captain, who worked on the 637 Sturgeon & 593 Thresher class nukes at Mare Island as an electronic emissions engineer(his office is one of the small white bldgs in the above post#5) and avid photographer, even at my daughter's recent wedding; often had to crawl 'twixt the the pressure hull and outer hull to deal with those issues-he would say "he could talk about it but then he'd have to kill me" ie; still exccedingly classified stuff!
On the horrific occasion when we snapped our aged rudder in two at the bottom pintel in 4' waves/30mph winds, smashing at the stern making steering highly problematic; and our excursion became a two hour ordeal (Me up on a pitching deck to hastily lower the jib and mainsail!!) as the boat spun rudderless 360 twice back to our marina as this shot reflects with longer armed me using only the thin metal folding bracket to steer our hastily unbolted, normally fixed-in-place, motor as this photo clearly reflects>
This was always the preferred method: Whether handling shiplines or a hasty metal bracket makeshift tiller, sailing gloves are a must! >

You were only missing the movie star, a millionaire, and his wife, Marianne, and the Professor too! You being Skipper, and your neighbor playing the part of Gilligan, but only a 2 hour ordeal, instead of a 3 hour tour... - can't quite carry it - you guys were too ingenious and made it back before the end of the first episode! love the fisheye!
