Bash Islam thread? I thought this was the Bash Islam forum...

At first, I actually thought this was a subsim forum but that was my mistake. Well, I'll pop back in a couple months to see whether the national supremacy vibes on this site have decreased. Until then, it's off to the grownups at SimHQ. Bye y'all!

I find the implication that because so many people (on a forum with many different nations represented no less) have a dim view of self serving US policies which affect people all around the world it should then be characterized as US bashing an offensive implication. I don't see many people flaming pro-US posters but rather I see many unanswered arguments which are often very well substantiated with evidence. That these staunch patriots cannot synthesize any better counter-argument than to reject all criticism as unintellectual bashing is itself as bad as what is being implied. Plus whats so surprising about seeing a thread about world politics and events become about the US? Isn't the US heavily involved in alot of the stuff that happens in the Mid-East? Being the world superpower tends to lead to that. However that also means that alot of people are going tobe critical. SO whats wrong with that? All I see here is a bunch of blind patriots being petulant because they don't like their ignorant beliefs in Manifest Destiny being challenged and don;t want to have to actually justify them.

Oh please! Get off your high horse already! Why don't you look at Canada as an example? We can go on about them for ages as well (My wife is Canadian - I'll have to beat up Canada when she is not looking however! We can start with the Le Québec Wa if you want - which is where I assume you are from by the way you talk, or at least East Coast Canada. West coast is too passive). Turn you sights on China, France, or any other country and you will find issues with all of them. The US is not perfect, but we don't take kindly to people blowing up our buildings, so deal with it. You could have the Soviet Union as your last remaining Super Power right now and they should have already walked across your border and made you part of it already.

Don't take it personally Subman, America has always had it's share of critics, of both the foreign and domestic varieties. Thanks to the power of modern communications they seem far more numerous than in past times but I firmly believe they aren't, just more easily heard.

Personally i think all this invective is a good thing. The world is never going to love us, so we might as well not labor under the mistaken impression they do.

True enough - who does? Perhaps if you begin just from that single premise you might get an inkling of why there is an insurgency in Iraq, of why Hezbollah was formed during the Israeli occupation of Southern Lebanon, etc.

Other people don't take kindly to having their buildings blown up either. But you have no capability to grasp this simple fact, which is why a majority of Americans supported the Iraq war and why so many people thought it would be a "cakewalk" with the Americans being greeted with flowers and candy.

Hahahaha! That is funny! It is written into their Koran that you are the infidel (unless you are of Islam yourself, which I sort of expect you might be). Has nothing to do with anyone doing anything except existing and being not of Islam - no other reason here. Period.

By the way, no one ever thought it would be a cakewalk after the major battles were done. We only hoped it would stay like that for some time.

I'm aware of that. Most are irrational too, which makes me questions peoples education.

That inkling would be incorrect. The insurgency in Iraq is all about Sunnis trying to jostle for a better place in the post-Baathist Iraq against ethnic groups who have no love for them. Why do you think they attack their fellow Iraqis far more often than they do coalition troops? Why do you think they attack Shiite mosques which have nothing to do with the US?

As for Hezbollah, they're just a puppet of Syria (also controlled by Baathists BTW) and Iran, both of who have been fighting an undeclared war against the evil Zionists for decades.

All of Israels incursions into southern Lebanon have been in response to attacks from that area. Google Operation Litani from way back in 1978.

It's not the US I hate, or even true Republicans. It's these neo-conservative yellow-bellies who say,"Let's you and him fight.", that I hate. You know, the guys who took 5 draft deferments like Cheney and then call war heroes cowards and traitors. Those are the guys I'd like to see take the point in Baghdad. Regarding Republicans, I'll quote Rush Limbaugh about Democrats,"When are you going to take your party back?"

...pardon me, gentlemen, if this is a private conversation...but, with all that fine bread going to waste there...say, you gonna eat that?

...oh, and could you pass the butter, please?
