I just completed my first patrol tonight as well.

6 merchants and one warship on the bottom, I found a big convoy with lots of tankers in it, and managed to sink a T3, T2 some cargo's before I ran out of torpedoes. Then I attacked the Corvette coming at me with my deck gun, sustaining some damage, but no casualties. I was able to sink 2 more small cargo ships before I ran out of 88 shells too. Then it was back to base.

Not to bad for a first patrol eh?
I'm only using the patched vanilla atm, with 79% realism.
