Default Error Message

Hello

I have had to re-install SH3 after I keep getting the message ""SH3.EXE" was modified. It may be damaged or infected by virus. Re-install application"

I have deleted all SH3 files and the game goes as far as asking me to re-boot after re-install but as soon as I try to start the game the same error message appears and no matter what I do it wont disappear

I have manually removed UBI Soft files and everything relating to SH3

Help !

Hmm maybe your anti virus program considers the copy protection (starforce) a virus. Honestly i cant blame it if it does :rotfl:

I assume your dvd doesnt have any scratches or anything.

It is also required to delete any SH3 references in your C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\SH3 folder.

Here's a good outline of the required procedure to re-install...

DVD is scratch free - How can I convince my anti-virus as to the error of its ways ?

Thanks for the reply

I've removed all traces of SH3 and UBI soft from the computer but it seems to have no effect

Hi Martin,

can remember that you have to update the *******ing StarForce drivers while sh3.exe has really been modified by patch 1.4b.
Give it a try:

StarForceUpdate

Greetz,
SSB

P.s.: if this won't work try the following:

1. uninstall SH3 completely [make sure that the sh3 program folder and the the folder 'SH3' in 'My Documents' are deleted; otherwise delete them manually]

2. download this little archive and extract the both incl. apps:
SH3_Emergency

3. first run 'sfdrvrem.exe' [removes StarF**c* drivers]

4. run 'sh3_regclean.exe' [removes all relics of SH3 from registry; restart will be performed at the end]

5. reinstall SH3

Here is a question, is it a game error message, or an anti virus warning?

Thanks for the advice

Tried all of the above and it went through to the disc verification which is a 1st but as soon as I put the disc code in it comes back with the same message !

It's from the game itself so it's not a virus message but I think the anti-virus is the problem so I will contact my providor

I can't see it being a AV warning I got Norton 2006 installed and my game runs just fine.
The only other thing am thinking of is you haven't by any chance changed the SH3.exe for the no cd/dvd crack?

I know but it sure sounds like a AV warning.

Did you try installing it to another computer? As it may be a problem with the game getting corrupted as it installed for what ever reason.

I'm pretty certain its not an AV warning as it is the battleship grey colours of SH3 where as my AV operates in whie / red

I haven't changed the SH3.exe at all but clearly something has

Default Error

After you run SquareSteelBar's program, disconect from the internet, startup in safe mode, turn off all antivirus and anti spyware programs that may still be active, go to windows explorer, find installshield folder and delete the regestry key that refers to SH3. Reboot, stay off the internet, disable all antivirus and anti spyware, and try again to install SH3.

If this doesn't work, shoot the computer.

It goes wrong after you re-start following re-install / disc key

Can't even get round to patching

hmmm... very mysterious...

copy the entire DVD to HD and try to install by double-clicking setup.exe

try to disable AV in BIOS

try to update mainboard chipset drivers

try another disk drive [DVD recorder] or update the firmware of your disk drive

IDE/ATAPI Controller has to work in DMA modus [device manager]

disable any virtual drives !

disable firewall, AV etc. [while disconnected from Internet]

will be continued...
