Yes I tried once and made it thru
Was in a IXB and heavy fog in 1941 IIRC
Refuelled at La Spezia and cruised the med for a patrol or two then went back thru
Only just made the return journey as had to go deep way before Gib because of aircraft and nearly ran flat and out of air
Pulled into Cadiz to recharge and vent as ASW seemed twice as bad on way out than going in
Worth a go and definately a different side of the game to the Atlantic

umm, i once took an IXC through gibralter, through the med, into the black sea, and then docked at constanza. Then went back the same way i came, back into the med, and out through gibralter once again; sinking ships along the way both coming and going.

Dunno if thats relivant, i just felt like bragging about how bored i was

Hi Rose,

Herbert Grönemeyer was the war correspondent in 'Das Boot'. Klaus Wennemann [†] was the LI [CE].

Well, I didnt go to the port of Gibraltar, but went past it in WaW#1 to transfer to 29th flotilla in La Spezia. Piece of cake! Looking forward to the shock, when I transfer to 29th in WaW2. I refuse to try running the Gibraltar beforehand with NYGM.

Dowly: May I ask who you are in WaW II and what Flottille you are in?

Default Gibraltar

Snuck in around the point to the south. I had to evade a couple of patrolling DD's but didn't have to many problems in silent running. Lined up a salvo on an Illustrious carrier and sunk her.

the lid really blew of the sh1tcan then. All the DD's in port (9 at last count) started pinging like mad and a couple locked onto me. Used a mad but effective evasion technique of running flat out towards the wharves then using emergency backwith a sharp starbord turn to end up parallel to the pier. droped back to forward slow and crept along to the end.

Bugger! found a torp net! No problem gently scrape past and sneak back around the end of the wharf for the next high speed run across the harbour. Meanwhile two DD's start ramming the whark behind me trying to get through until they sunk themselves!

Made the next flank speed run across to the next wharf. with four of the DD's homing in on the noise I was making. I slowed down, and snuck into a berth where there was a tramp steamer sitting. I sort of slid between her and the wharf and shut down. One of the DD's tried to back into the space with the tramp to drop some eggs on me head!

I shot out of there like a rat up a drain at flank and then parallelled the wharf again in a repeat of the first one. This time the DD that backed up killed itself and the tramp with it's eggs and two more DD's ran themselves into the pier!

As I crept away in the confusion the remaining patrols kept looking for me back where the tramp was. by the time they realised I wasn't around anymore I was halfway around the point at silent running. All up i thought it was a good result. Shame I couldn't get any renown for sinking the DD's.
