Thanks to CTU CLAY & BLACKSWAN40 for your suggestions. I do not use the mods you mentioned and I was aware of and avoided the pitfalls you mentioned also. I discovered that the files for my current campaigned might have been corrupted in some way. I did that by deleting the entire folder and restarting SH3. It started. I made sure everything was set to English and exited and then restarted. I started a new campaign. I made a save and exited; restarted. So far so good. Played a few minutes and made a 2nd save; exited. Tried to restart and no dice. Now the game doesn’t allow me to make a 2nd save. I’ve tried half a dozen times with a new campaign each time. I don’t now enough about the files and where they are stashed to follow up. I’ll keep looking for clues until I find the problem or just put the game to rest. Thanks for trying to help.

Hi OldTrawler is your SH3 installed in Program/Files 86 if so thats what causing the problem Windows 10 protection inside Program/Files 86 SH3 does'nt like being installed there best to install SH3 on just drive C:/or make a Games Folder on drive C:/ and install SH3 there.
or is your SH3 the old original SH3 release or steam install

Thanks again for the suggestions. None of them are the problem as I learned from this forum when I first installed the game not to place it there. What I discovered is that the game makes two files after exiting the campaign; patrol.cfg and patrol_01.cfg in your SH3 folder under the Documents folder. When I compared them to an old campaign I notice that the patrol file was incomplete (cannot explain why). I went through the process of deleting and restarting a campaign with the same results (game not starting). The last time, I copied the contents of patrol_01 to the patrol file and - Whaalaa! - it has continued to load and I’m able to continue this campaign. I would like to resolve the issue with the files but for now I’m going to continue the campaign to see if will keep going. Thanks for trying to help.

I remember having a similar problem when I re-installed Silent Hunter III.
1. The first thing I did to correct the loading was to cleanse my computer of all traces of SH3, including the SH3 in the my "Documents" folder. 2. Create a new folder and name it My Silent Hunter III Reboot and reinstall SH3 to this new folder on "C:/" outside of all "programs areas" 3. Run SH3 One(1) time to create a new folder named SH3 in the "Documents" 4. Reboot. You should now be good to go I hope this helps, -clay ![]()
