That makes a lot of sense. I'm guessing it's a regional thing as I know that kids in Canada, not all that far from you, are in some cases I know of, on skates at 2 and before. Literally. Hockey isn't as big in the southern states as it is in the Northern states and for the obvious reasons. The cold climate in the winter and freezing in the northern states and regions there makes for great in prompto skating rinks and Hockey games.

A friends dad made us a makeshift ice skating rink on property they had and I well remember the hard fought hockey games we played on it on cold, snowy and frigid Saturday Mornings / afternoons. Sometimes, we even got his dad to play too. We won a lot of Stanley Cup finals and Olympic games on that ice but I must have missed out on the medals ceremony and hoisting the Stanley Cup. My friends dad, who is a great guy and had an equally great sense of humor, gave us one his favorite coffee mugs with tape around it and lettering that said " Stanley's cup. " Somehow, it just wasn't the same.

Well, it's official. The U.S women's Olympic Hockey team lost to Canada in the Gold Medal game 3-2. I stayed up tonight to watch it. I wouldn't have missed it. I expected it to be an uphill battle against the Canadian team. While disappointed for the U.S team, I am happy for the Women's Canadian team. Well done ladies.

The Women's Canadian team played behind an incredibly stingy defense and great goal tending. They deserved to win. The Men's U.S Olympic Hockey team also lost to Slovakia last night, letting them tie the game with 30 seconds left on the clock. They played a scoreless overtime only to lose in the shootout. All in all, if you love Hockey, there were great games to be seen in the Olympics this year.

I thought that the format used by the NHL in the Stanley cup playoffs best of seven as you mentioned, would be great as well. Unfortunately, I think the time constraints of the Olympics would not make that format feasible. It would be great Hockey to see though, no doubt.

Well, the 2022 Winter Olympics are in the history books. I hope your country did well in the medal count. I watched a tight Olympic gold medal Hockey game, late Saturday night between Russia and neighboring Finland with Finland winning it's first ever gold medal. Well done, gentlemen.
It was a tightly contested game with both teams playing great defense.

I hope everyone enjoyed it or any other events they were interested in.

It must be over, all of the invasions have begun.

For hockey, did they field NHL players or are they done with that?

I was thinking the same thing.

In the Olympics, they can't be active players although I saw a few who I know play in the NHL. I would really have to look at the rules. I was never in favor of NHL players being in the Olympics as it gave those teams an unfair advantage over other countries that didn't have resources like that.

It isn't the rules. NHL players have played in the past. It's Covid.

Gary Bettman, league president.

Quote:
"Unfortunately, given the profound disruption to the NHL’s regular-season schedule caused by recent COVID-related events -- 50 games already have been postponed through Dec. 23 -- Olympic participation is no longer feasible,"

Thanks for the Info, Marcel. I know years ago, there was an argument against letting NHL players play in the Olympics. I thought perhaps it had happened that way. I know Team Canada had Sidney Crosby who plays for the Pittsburgh Penguins and I also saw Pavel Datsyuk who played for the Detroit Red Wings and Pavel Bure among other notables who played in both the NHL and also the Olympics for the Russian teams.
