I believe that the developers got most depths in Silent Hunter 3 pretty accurate.
Shallow coastal European waters were a problem for U-Boats in WWII, and there was no way around it. Especially after 1941, as British/Commonwealth escorts began to get better at underwater detection. When I play SH3 I sometimes have to let a convoy go at certain points on the map, due to lack of depth. Late in the war, Alberich made things better in shallow waters for the subs lucky enough to receive it. But it was far from a cure-all. |
