Hi guys! Happy new year to you all, from the far east corner of the globe
![]() I would like to ask for a quick question regarding the PT boat sensors. I just got the GWX onealex edition 1.51 today, and has been patrolling the Irish coast this morning. I noticed a group of ELCO boats from far out and dove down to periscope depth without being detected. I punched all ahead 1/3 at 50m depth hoping to sneak by them undetected just like the old days, but all of sudden, I got pinged from the PT boats... It has sure been a while since I played GWX last time 6~7 years ago, but I am really baffled by PT boats carrying sonars. Am I missing something here? |

What was the weather?
If the weather is bad and you have choppy waves, you could’ve broached the surface. If you left the periscope up too long, they could’ve spot it. And 1/3 speed is a bit loud. They could have heard you. There are a number of reasons they found you.

![]() It was day 10AM, 3m/s wind, no fog. I was down at 50m ~ 60m, doing 1/3 ahead. I wouldn't dare putting up my scope right next to a PT boat in a broad daylight... I swear I was able to walk out of the scene very easily in my old GWX 3.0 games a few years ago. PT boats? Dive to 50m and run, no problem. This time my boys called 'we are being pinged sir'. I just can't believe a small elco boat in 1939 december carrying an ASDIC... |

That is strange. I haven’t played GWX in a long time, so I am unsure what mods might give PT boats super hearing.
I do know that calm seas are easier to hear sounds than roughs seas. Thanks for subscribing!

Yes, before events proved otherwise asdic was thought to be the end all cure for any u-boat problems, so the British put it on most anything that could float.

Indeed, very much indeed!
CTDs, frustrations, distractions from other games pulls us from SHs from time to time, but you just have to come back. After some dark times since the Ubi Romania demise, recently we are treated with Wolfpack, Destroyer command, Crush Depth, Modern Naval warfare, etc. I still remember buying SH5 DVD copy right off the ebay and installing it, immediately let down by its quality... I can't believe we subsimmers are pampered by such great sims on the horizons. Subsim community and contributors like you and bstanko6 is the only thread that held us together, and subsimmers like myself are forever in your debt. Again, happy new year! |

I would love to see a source proving PT or MTB's had sonar. Such boats are singularly poor anti sub platforms for a variety of reasons. The above mentioned was NOT a PT/MTB class boat, it was quite a bit larger.

![]() Regardless, I'd still think it more "correct" for them not to have asdic.

Not a native English speaker here, but I think "fitted for", as opposed to "fitted with", means there is possibility to install hardware in question but it is not normally included (sort of like PC mainboard has slots for additional RAM but it is not included in PC when you buy it). How I would read this fragment is that MTB had provisions to install asdic if needed, for example if an MTB flotilla had to be used as convoy escorts for lack of other craft. To know whether this actually happened during WW2, one would need to do further research. |

Hard to say. It could just as easily mean it had it and then got rid of it.
