![]() ![]() At 0821, the TA picked up Kuznetsov’s contact S23 below the layer. Looks like it is very close to San Juan. I adjusted Z3 to a new estimated location. I noticed that I do not have any active sonar ping contact below the layer. That means the active sonar contact is actually a DDG, and it is still at least >10nm away from me, which is a good news. I can attack Kuznetsov and easily evade the persecution from the DDG. ![]() (After I finished the scenario, I loaded to the save file and turn the truth on. I pinned down Udaloy's position pretty accurately , but there is a significant error on Kuznetsov's position. ) ![]() ![]() ![]() Now Sphere sonar sensor pick up Kuznetsov again. With the latest Sphere, Hull and TA update I am able to pin down a more accurate location. I adjusted the S22(Kuznetsov hull sonar contact) ’s position in TMA , but kept Z3 on the same position just in case if my S22 solution is not correct ,. My plan is to keep the current course speed for probably ten more min, then I can get into Kuznetsov’s baffle ![]() Kuznetsov’s position should be very very close to me. it’s sonar contact bearing changes rapidly on all my sensors ![]() I have get into a prefect fire position . My plan is to release 3 MK48 in passive mode then increase speed to 12kt, turn southwest and attack the Boris Chilikin when I am on the way to pull out. (to be continued) |

![]() ![]() As mentioned above, my plan is to stay under layer, release 3 MK48s in passive mode (Tube 4 is loaded with MOSS). Cut two torp’s wires ASAP so that I can begin reloading process. Keep the last one’s wire intact just in case. Hopefully Kuznetsov’s escort will only be able to detect the incoming torpedoes. As soon as the torp hit the target, San Juan will send a countermeasure above the layer, dive to the max depth, turn to the heading 120, increase the speed to 12~15kts. Hopefully San Juan can catch the Boris Chilikin before the DDG and Helo can pin down my location. After that, find a way to get out of here ASAP. ![]() San Juan launched 3 Torp on 0843, 40s later, Kuznetsov detected the torp. From DEMON room I can see Kuznetsov rapidly changed the speed. First MK48 hit Kuznetsov on 08:44:46, 10 seconds later, the other two MK48 hit Kuznetsov too, sending her to the bottom of ocean. ![]() However, after I launched the countermeasure and changed the heading, TA detected a troubling contact, Shkval! There is a Russian SSN not far away from San Juan. ![]() What is more dreadful than a Shkval, is a Shkval heading towards you (the 80hz is an indication) ![]() (After the scenario ends, I load the save and turn the truth on. Here you can see how desperate the situation is) ![]() I quickly ordered change the heading to 90, retrieve the TA, increase the speed to 25kt. However, it is too late. At 08:46, two Shkval detonated, caused a significant damage to San Juan. All the sensors including active intercept are damaged, and need at least 2 hours repair. ![]() What funny about DW is, you will not get a contact from a damaged sonar active intercept , but you can still hear the “ping ping ping” sound. ![]() (turned the truth on, the torp are far away from San Juan, but during the game, due to the damaged sonar system I have no idea how far the torps are. The ping ping sound made me extremely nervous.) ![]() In the next 30 min, San Juan zig-zag , release the countermeasure occasionally. At 1050, San Juan reduced the speed to 5kt, re-acquired the sound contact of DDG and Boris Chilikin above the layer. Later San Juan went above and below layer several times to make sure not followed by Russian SSN. Since I have sink the primary target Kuznetsov and I am in a relatively safe position, I decided to go to the communication depth and send the report to HQ, call it a day. ![]() END |

1)Beautiful story! I really enjoyed it. You have clarified it very much by many screen photos.
2) Can you publish any more of these fine stories? 3) And..., you can explain TMA in the same way in a very simple way, for absolute the beginner???? ![]() |

FPSchazly's youtube tutorials could be helpful for the beginner At the same time , there are several discussion about TMA here. One of the topic started by me, hopefully these help https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/sho...d.php?t=249527 https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/sho...d.php?t=244229 https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/sho...d.php?t=244986 https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/sho...d.php?t=240663 https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/sho...d.php?t=244772 Just keep in mind TMA is a description on what happened in the past , and many time this description is based on inaccurate data. You will have to use your experience and judgement to predict the future. |
